Default Broken springs getting more common

Does anyone have a source for the saddle bag handle springs-First one broke and two weeks later the other-Last year the spring broke for the glovebox door on my Roadglide-I tried to obtain an aftermarket spring without any luck-the dealer told me I have to buy the complete door to get the spring-cost 65.00 for a 2.00 spring.Iv'e tried Grangiers with no luck.Local hardware stores can't come close.

It's not likely you will find a correct spring. If you know what the spring looks like and the size, you may find something that might work by searching for small springs.

Not meaning to hijack the thread or anything, but does the broken spring on the saddle bag latch, cause the saddle bag latch to vibrate? Cause I am experiencing that.

I just got my Glide back from the dealership Tuesday for the second replacement in 6 months. I have to reassemble it because the spring was installed wrong. It looks like they are failing from corrosion. I plan on hitting mine with some hi temp grease to keep it from rusting (that was the reason the first one broke).

I may have a spring for your glove box door. If not try here http://www.smallparts.com/

By any chance would the spring be included inside the $1.25 barrel hinge pn#64255-98 for the road glide glove box door?

The HD p/n for the saddlebag latch spring is 90707-00A. Still have one in the parts bag waiting to install next time one breaks. I started putting a touch of oil on them to see if that helps.

I just had the first one break last week so I bought two of them knowing the rusty second one will break soon. Pretty easy to replace and I put some lithium grease on it this time. The first one lasted 3 years and 29,000 miles so I'm not complaining.

I don't know if they can make spring steel out of stainless or not. If they can, that may be a solution.

i had one break this past winter. the saddlebag latch seemed like it had broken elbow syndrome. it was not too tough to replace. the harley parts counter had it and i think the spring cost me about three bucks. i had to open up where the rod was pinched in place in order to remove the stock broken spring from the rod, and put the new spring back in place and then pinch the hinge tubing back together. the next time i have to change one, i'll have experience with it and it'll be much easier.

I have tried looking for springs with no luck.I was told the only way to get the spring is to purchase the comlpete door assy.
I even asked the same question here a long time ago with no luck.
I have gone to hardware stores looking for springs.Ended up bending a torsion to make it work.It is not very strong but keeps the door shut.
I had the other break after so I ended up buying some plastic push button latches from Mcmaster -Carr for the doors. The fix was less than $30 compared to over $100 for new doors.

Just replaced my saddlebag latch springs this morning. Two springs (90707-00A) less than 4 bucks at the dealer. Mine were rusted and broken. The new spring is a little beefier than the old one. Guess I forgot what they felt like before they were broken. The latches really snap shut tight now.
