welcome to the forum. yeah, what boogaloodude said, it's hard not to ask something not already asked. I'm sure you'll get flamed for not using the search - wear your thick skin. the search on this site pretty much suxs, unless you're ready to read through pages of drivel to get a nugget of info.
I recently went for an '08 Fatboy to a "03 Road King. I did it because I wanted a silver and black anniversary bike. my GF thinks I make a great swap, she loves the Road King's ride over the Fatboy. the one downside for me is that I feel like I'm sitting on top of the RK instead of sitting in my Fatty. the way I ride, I can't tell any difference between the 88" and 96" engine.
Traded my '99 Fat Boy for a '10 Ultra Classic. I miss the FB but would never go back. If I had the $ I would have both (FB for bar-hopping). Oh, I use the stereo EVERYTIME the bike is running and I love it. Crusing, with tunes, is great!
i can imagine spending time on your friends road king, when you got home and sat on your fatboy, it felt tiny in comparison. harleys touring line is a world apart from any other harleys as far as riding comfort.
thanks everyone for the responses and feed back...I am going today to the dealer to feel him out on trading and see what he has available. right now I am debating on a '10, or '11 model. Does anyone have any experience with the 103 upgrade, and that throttle twist upgrade that shuts off the rear cylinder while sitting in traffic. Real "iffy" on that one.
First off, Bro-in-law and I regularly trade between his FB and my Ultra while on road trips. The Ultra flat out out handles the FB in the curves. Touring is a no brainer.
The wife will like any tourer over the FB - add the backrest and comfy seat of the Classic or Ultra, and she'll love it!
Second, don't underestimate your radio use.
Third, the heat management is standard on all tourers since 08.
Let us know what you decide. I am also looking at the FB Lo vs RK. Of course the wife wants the RK but I am coming from riding a BMW K1200S and like the sporter feel of the FB. Am having a real hard time deciding.
