Default Fatboy vs. Road King

Greeting all...I have a comparison question regarding a Fatboy, and a Road King. Since I was a kid, I have been infatuated with the Fat Boy model, and have owned several, including my current Fat Boy Lo. My problem is that my wife has become just as enthused about riding as I am. When we go on short road trips, and some longer journeys, the Fat Boy seems to be getting smaller. We borrowed a friends Road King, and it was incredible...it felt, and rode like a dream, and seemed to be a lot beefier, and sturdy ride. Have any of you made the switch from a soft tail to a touring model, and what has been your experience...any advice?...any regrets? Thanks for the help.

I went from a Fat Boy to a Street Glide, no regrets. I tested a RK Classic, loved the look, but didn't really care for the ride. Absolutely love the Street Glide, the handling, the looks, and oh yeah, the stereo.

Thanks for the response...when you mentioned the ride, were you referring to the lowered suspension on the Street Glide giving it a better ride? I looked at them this past weekend, but didn't think I'd use the radio and other goodies. How often do you use the tunes, and is the sound quality decent while you're cruising?

Thanks again!

I put a removable fairing on my RK, I listen to the tunes when ever I am on the bike!

The Fat Boy is a great bike but if you are going to be taking the wife with you on a regular basis you need to get a touring bike.
Take a few for a test ride and see which model you like the best.

No worries, welcome to the forum. It's tough to ask a question that hasn't been asked around here.

Lots of us have made the switch from softails to touring platforms. About 15 years ago, it was hard to turn around without running into another fatboy. Now, it's all about baggers.

For what it's worth, I think the ride and handling of the touring platform is a big step forward from the softails. I wouldn't mind having a softail in my garage, but it would be a second or third bike if I did.

I would love to have a Fatboy in the garage, but all my serious riding will be on a touring bike. No comparison on the ride.
