Default Thread locker...retorqueing.

Whether checking for loose bolts before a ride, or going through the manual and retorquing any and everything during scheduled maintenance, is there not an issue with breaking the threadlocker? Seems to me that if the bolts breaks loose and you get an extra inch lb. or 2 that it would need to be removed and threadlocker re-applied. Am I over thinking this, or is it a legitimate concern?

Personally, if the bolt moved when retorquing, I would remove the bolt, clean, and retorque. Most of the bolts that are 18 ft/lbs or more don't require loctite. The only ones that have run into are the shock to swingarm bolts. They require three drops of 243 loctite. Some of the critical fasteners are the motormount and stabilizer bolts. These bolts do not require loctite as per the manual. Look at the manual and if it mentions loctite on assembly and they move when retorqued, remove and clean. The craftsman 40 piece thread chaser set is all you need.

Just set Your torque wrench just below the specified torque. If the fastner moves, take it out ,apply threaderlocker and retorque. If it does'nt move, Your good to go.

When I check the torque and the moves at or before the click, I remove it and reapply the thread locker. Most times the bolt does not move so it does not take very much time.

I'm glad it isn't just me who rechecks bolt tightness at service intervals. My dealer thinks I'm crazy to go over the bike every 2500 miles and checking them because of the lock tight.

+1 on the comments.
