Mine too. And believe me... It's been soaked. To the point where I killed the power going to the unit and ran it off the battery (just in case...).

I don't even know what "left hand use" means...

Left hand use as designed by garmin means the primary control buttons are on the left side of the gps unit. Since most bikes require use of the right hand on the throttle, they designed the Zumo so it can be mounted on the left-hand side of the bike. Also when searching to spell out a destination, the Zumo has a unique approach to expanding the letters of the alphabet so letters can be chosen with heavy gloves on.

For these reasons you want a Garmin Zumo 550 not a Nuvi 550.
And apparently you have NOT a clue what your talking about. They are water proof, they are motorcycle friendly, and they can be used with gloves on.

Description from web (Perfect for crossing over the threshold from city to backcountry, the Garmin nüvi 550 provides a high-sensitivity GPS receiver with turn-by-turn navigation in a ruggedized, waterproof exterior that you can use while hiking, biking, or boating.)

I was caught in multiple rainstorms during the run to Sturgis and this unit performed flawlessly.

Also, had it mounted on left handlebar and operated it just fine with both summer weight and heavy weight gloves.

This unit also allows me to create routes on my pc using Microsoft Streets and Trips, then download the file into the GPS.
Thank you

Well, I use a map.

I also cook over fire, wash my clothes in a creek, commute in a horse and buggy, and count on my fingers instead of using a calculator.

So there. Take that. Nyah.

Now that I am back to work and using my bike as transportation I am going to get the Garmin zumo 660. I found a couple for just over $600.00. I like the idea of the 4.3" screen. Next on the list will be a detachable fairing.

It would appear you don't understand what it means to be designed for use with motorcycle gloves. take a look at a ZUMO 550 in Motorcycle mode (it can also be operated in auto mode) and you'll better understand. Too hard to explain until you see the difference on the screen.

Zumo = tuned for gloved hands
Nuvi = tuned for regular fingers

Zumo = built for some degree of abuse. This doesn't mean that you should use it as a weapon against your ex, but does mean that it's built to be durable against constantly being mounted and unmounted from your bike mount, as well as the somewhat bumpier ride a unit can get on a bike as compared to today's cars.
Nuvi = Built to be portable, but expecting less mount/dismounts and a built for a smoother ride.

Here's the description of the Zumo 550 from Garmin's website:
Enjoy Bike-Friendly Design

Durable and dependable, zūmo 550 is built for motorcycles:
  • Glove-friendly touchscreen with left-handed controls makes it easy to operate
  • High brightness, sunlight-readable, UV-resistant display makes it easy to view your screen
  • Motorcycle console for trip information, including fuel gauge to warn you when it's time to fill up
  • Motorcycle mount with universal mounting hardware so you can mount it anywhere
  • Included motorcycle and automotive mount (with integrated speaker) for riding or driving
  • Custom caps available in a variety of colors to reflect your style
  • Vibration-tested, waterproof and built with fuel-resistant plastics to withstand the elements
Here's the description from Garmin for the Nuvi 550:
Take It Anywhere

nüvi 550 features driving, walking, bicycling and boating modes which customize your nüvi specifically for your method of travel. This portable hybrid combines the advanced navigation features and large, color display found in automotive units with the durability of an outdoor handheld. Sleek and slim, you can slip nüvi 550 into your pocket or backpack. The user-replaceable, rechargeable lithium-ion battery lets nüvi navigate you on roads or off.

One important feature you'll lose with the Nuvi vs. the Zumo is auto-recalculate. This feature alone on a bike makes the Zumo worth the investment IMO.
