Default Difference in FLHT vs FLHR

Okay, new to touring bikes as have lived in the softtail world for awhile. My sons and I have have made the plung and now have baggers. One son went the smart way and bought a new (in 09) Streetglide. My other son and myself went cheap and have a 02 & 04 EG's Standards. Now we are looking for some parts and I want to make sure I get this right. As far as I can see the EGs, RoadKings and RoadGlides are the same from the neck back for most all bolt on parts. Is this a good assumption or am I missing something. Looking for mostly chrome as I hate buffing aluminum. Also looking for exhaust parts. I know there are year groupings where things are interchangable. Thanks for your help.

IMHO, you two were the smart ones! FLHT Standard is a great buy! HD is dumb for discontinuing them.

All the same bikes. There may be some things you want on your bike that the bike doesn't have a provision for (rarely), but all in all the same bikes. In fact, usually the wiring harness is the same and what wires aren't being used on your bike are merely tucked away in the fairing. Or at worst, you'd have to add an easily purchased OE harness that yours is lacking.

Your absolute best option is to buy the Service manual AND buy the Parts manual. It will answer a lot of questions and give you a clue as to what you can easily add to the bike.

Good luck.

many items are interchangeable from road kings to elactraglides. like you mentioned, the main difference is the front end fairing and so forth. 97-07 had basically the same frames so most of that stuff is interchangeable but even some stuff outside that range is as well. anytime you just have a question about a specific fitment, just throw it up on here. someone will know for sure.
