I would like to make a proposal to ALL '07 owners who don't like their 6-speeds (because of whatever reason)---I will (out of the kindness of my heart) be willing to trade you even up for my 5-speed. Man, you guys whine alot yourselves (I'm surprised you can even hear your tranny's) Take the freakin' things back till HD gets it right, nobody twisted your arms to buy a '07!! Ultimately your going to end up with a scoot with 8 more cubic inches AND 6-speeds for a lousy $500 more than the '06's[sm=popcorn.gif]

Too bad your 5speed wont bolt up to an 07.How would you act after dumping 20 plus on a bike that sounds like a trash can only to have dealer shrug their shoulders and say they never had a complaint before or what your hearing is normal. You arent standing in the same shoes as some of us.I realize new models arent always what they appear and if it wasnt for the internet this problem may take longer. Those of us w/issues are here to remedy this noise. If you had an 07 Im sure youd be staying up on this thread. The MOCO knows it has a problem, they just dont know where its coming from.Sometime a trans change seems to cure it,other times noise is still there after replacement.Things are just on hold as of today.

Well what do you know! I have had a cycle repair shop for 30 years and I bought a 07 ultra. All I say to hd is that they have some amf employees still around. I rode it home and called the store back to report a loss of power and all the noise. No test rides, or any disclosures from store on the whinning 5th and 6th that might not rattle at 85 mph. No one listened to me on the loss of power and excess heat, pipes solid blue to muffler. After 300 miles they took cam cover off to find o-ring from oilpump folded over no letting oil return properly and the motor was full of oil for the 300 miles. sumped completely. **** sent rep down from milwaukee to look at bike and test ride. Acted like this was all new to him. Told store to remove primary cover and check compensating sprocket for 6th gear rattle. Total smoke up ones butt. Came back a week later for 2nd ride and said it was much better. B.S. I was asking for 75,000 warranty on motor that ran hot for the first 300 miles and all hd offered was a third year on my warranty. I am in the process of wanting all my money back and waiting till 2008. I hope others will push for this also. I cannot and will not put up with this whinning 5th gear when all the ads say that these new gears will be quieter. All I do is ride around in 4th so I don't have to listen to 5th and or a rattling 6th at 65-70 mph. All the rep kept saying was that all bikes are different. If 5th is supposed to whine then why doesn't all bikes be the same. I will post back after I dump the keys off at the dealer this week and let you know what happened. Pissed of completely in Saxonburg Pa Jim

Didnt the ad call em the 8th wonder of the world.Man I thought I had problems, good luck with your bike. This whole thing is really sad.I hope the factory can cleanup their name on this years problems. What gets me is these magazines wont make mention of it.It sounds like there is some good ones out there, some so-so ones and ones that are yet to experience.

Guys,, I'm with ya!!! but first,,,,,, those that are happy with their bikes good for you,, go read diff. forums, lets us unlucky ones figure this out, besides, you have no buisness here anyways, cause your full of schit!! we are legit and have a legit prob.!!
for those of you just coming in,, there a 3 apparent noises that are bothering us, 1st,,-5th gear wine,// 2nd,-the hard knockin or clankin in 5th and 6th, and// 3rd -the spark nock or tinny, tink tink, when rollin on the throttle,,,it seems the ultra classics have the most complaints,
and it is not enjoyable at alll. my last rally was was fun, but the whole weekend my mind would be on all the noise issues, and wondering if making it home would be a reality! SO,,,,,, those of us with issues, stay in touch and lets get through this together,
lets ignore those of no help, and lets share what we learn, and find out,, through our dealers!
I love the bike and feel it will be worked out in time, my peace of mind for now is the 2 year warranty!

I am following this post too. I have the 5th gear whine, surging at steady speeds, and the can of rocks noise in 5th and 6th if the RPM's are a little low when shifting. I have owned 5 other HD's and never any trans noises like I do with my 2007 FLHR. I was at the dealer last week and they noted that we discussed this issue on my work order. The service manager told me what I was hearing before the words came out of my mouth. I am going back on Friday to take advantage of a 20% off sale and will check with them for any updates. I am not sure why I am spending money on accessories on something I am not happy with, but hopefully it will be a simple fix.

I read on v-twin forum.com that the guys tranny who locked ou was due to the dipstick breaking off and getting into the trans gears. The dipstick is over the gears and not in the pan any more. Imagine that happening at 80 mph.
