07 tranny probs?
But I also don't shift until my RPMS are past 25 to 26 hundred.... Smooth as silk. Love it.
Looks like a few of you on this thread have it all figured out, especially drocken, DocPoof, and gunrunner. It must be the newer or first time Harley owner who doesn't know what he is doing, and the noises he is hearing are normal, or he should have bought a GW, or he is shifting wrong and lugging it, and of course your bikes run quiet and smooth as silk so rub it in, I'm sure that will make the ones having the problems feel better. You all could work at the stealers since you give all the same answers as they do. You haven't ridden any of their bikes so you don't have any idea about the noises their bikes are making or anything else about their bikes for you to comment on. I have read a few other stories on the 07's and there are some very experienced Harley owners who are having the same problems and have written about it. I'm sure that most of the 07's are OK but I think a lot of people are having some problems and at the price we pay for these things that is unacceptable. JMHO
I'm not suggesting anyone is lugging their engine but I am curious at what speed they are shifting into 6th since people are complaining about gear noise in 6th.
Mine does run hotter than my last couple of Harleys however the dealer told me that would happen when I was buying it. They also said they would install the download, which apparently helps, for free and uninstall for free if I didn't like it.
Damn....I'm so upset I can't contribute to this thread.
I have yet to experience any tranny noise. Actually, the bike is too damn quiet.
So much so the only thing I can hear going 70mph is the faint tapping of the valves.
Wow, I must be one of the 1% of 07 owners that have nothing to complain about, other then the pain in my face and cheeks from the constant smile I have riding the bike.
If you want a bike you can't hear you should of bought a goldwing.

I'm sure once they figure out the problem they will also be able to update yours so it doesn't sound like a goldwing. Just hold on.
So far my dealer has sold over 40 new 07's and not 1 has come back yet because of tranny noise.
The few they did have come in with "tranny noise" had nothing wrong. The mechanics took them out, no noise. Problem is the riders are lugging the engine/trans because they are shifting too soon. The gear ratios have changed for the 07's. Wait until the rpm's are a little higher - no issues.
I think this forum has grossly inflated the problem.
I hate to say it but anytime you buy a new model year you should be aware there may be issues. Those that don't are fools. Accept the risk and move on. If there is an issue you're dealer will take care of it. No need to keep bitching and moaning about it.
Anyway, I'll wait until the aftermarket comes out with a decent set of true duals to make my bike sound like a HD.

....
They have taken any back under warranty since HD won't let them. What would they do with them if they did? They don't know the cause or how to fix it. They insist that you should just go ride and enjoy yourself since nothing serious is wrong. How do they know that if they can't explain the cause of this added rider "enjoyment".
For those of you who haven't had this HD experience just tie some coffee cans to back of the bike. After you get up enough speed they start to float and the noise goes away. This isn't an exactly the same as the original (since it happens in each gear) but its close. Even goldwing riders can enjoy this.
Try reading this and for some I suggest re-reading a few times. The whine in 5th is NOT an issue. There are comments about it but no one is complaining about that. NOT ALL Touring models have the problem of the clatter, bucket of bolts, sloppy gears, how ever one wants to discribe it. If someone has not had the misfortune of hearing the noise then how can that person say it does not exist or is heard only by newbees. I'm 57 and bought my first Harley at 12, yes 12, it was a 57 Hummer (single cylinder-look it up) and been on a Harley every since. Hard tails, pan heads, evos, sporties, electra glides, and this 07 ultra is a piece of crap as it stands now. I DO NOT intentionally lug the engine, I try to keep the RPMs over 2000 at the minimum and the noise is there at all RPMs. It has now migrated to 6th gear and at speeds like 80mph (is that lugging?). Other riders have told me they hear it while following me. It is there and very real. MoCo said they can reproduce the sound in any touring model so if you don't hear it (lucky you) lets wait and see it the recall/fix applies to yours. If one is so sure that the 07 touring models are perfect that refuse any recall/fix that you are told applies. I bet there won't be one of you that refuses it.
Sorry to vent my frustration but my god, don't guess at what is going on or try to tell us we are imagining this s@&t. The MoCo ADMITTED there is a problem with all touring models (some can be heard all the time others not) and they are working on it and since they designed it and built it, I'm sticking with the the MoCo for the time although not much longer. And by the way I am not a Harley batcher, if I ditch this bike my next one will be a Harley, there just is nothing else out there to compare.
