Read the post and I can't hear nothing in 5th gear....no whine.
6th gear below 70 mph and I hear the clatter. I have an 07 StreetGlide.
There is another thread on the IDS on this forum and the people who have done this "upgrade" say it gets rid of the clatter.

5300 miles in 45 days...mostly highway speeds and sometimes at 100 mph...no problems with the tranny except the rattle...lol

IDS is installed and all clatter bang is not present..........I just wonder how much stress damage has occured to the gears in the tranny due to this issue? Hopefully I will never find out and none of you others with the 07 clatter trannies........one word of advice..........spend the money for the ids and install it, zanotti is the place and it is a breeze to install, took me 1 hr. $200 more for the $18,000 bike is worth it, since HD is too greedy to recall it for us. I am finally happy with this electraglide, formerly electraclatter. Maybe I'll decide to keep it now!!! Good luck all 07 clatter owners!!!

Asa recent 07 owner, I have read this forum intently for about 4 months on the 07 models. I knew going in that I would probably put the IDS on very soon. Without it, I had no transmission noises I could detect, but a definite clatter from the engine compensator sprocket, lurching at low rpms, and a lot of vibration in the floorboards when accelerating hard or pulling a steep hill. I wasn't dissatisfied at all with the bike's performance. But, I went ahead with IDS and it solved all problems for me. It is as smooth as any bike I've ever owned, including the '84 Wing. The only thing left is some valve train chatter at all speeds, but it isn't pervasive at all. It shifts much easier, even into first when cold, there is virtually no vibartion in the floorboards at any loading, and the low speed lurching is gone. I can decelerate all the way down to idle rpm in gear. I can accelertate from 1400 rpm in any gear but 1800 rpm works fine. In short, this is the best Ultra. Even my wife admits it is one nice Harley, and she is picky.[sm=smiley2.gif]

"Buy the Warranty", When the warranty runs out, it is still a Road Klatter... "Ear Plugs?" You will need them when the bike is broke down along side the road, you know, when everyone driving by is laughing at you.... Point is, why spend money purchasing an extended warranty, when they won't fix it with 2 yr. included warranty, spend your money on the IDS kit and be done with!! Thanks foryour input.

07 Street Glide....... 1,600 miles, had the 1000 mile service at 1000 miles! Having many of the noises others are talking about PLUS a "lower end" whine 'sometimes' when slowing down. Dealer could not duplicate noise. I'm not really sure if I trust the bike, which sucks since I paid MSRP. This is my 4th new HD, gotta say......... I'm 100% disappointed. I'm only 47, so I hope to have many more years of riding, HD better straighten up or this guy just might be Winging it next time around.

Joe

P.S. My dealership could care less....... yet another disappointment.

Mine whines when slowing down. I don't think that is a problem.

Put on the IDS and most of the other noises quieten down. Run some heavy gear lube in the tranny, sometimes that works sometimes it doesnt.

Bottom line is your posting into a group who has fought this for 12 months now. There have been no breakdowns associated with these noises so no reason to worry about it. Most of us have installed the IDS and feel like we have brand new bikes - again.

Mine whines too in 5th gear. Once I get up to 60 it goes away. Have to be on interstate for 6th gear bike likes to run 70 plus in the 6 hole.

I just bought an 07 UC. Runs great. Hot as all get out so I had thigh protectors put on, but no real mechanical noise so far.
