[blockquote]hey TJ,[/blockquote]
All you have to do is call 414-343-4056..that's the HD customer service/buyback number. They'll open a case and have the buyback people call you. Of course they won't call so you have to do this in conjunction with the dealer. Take the bike back and tell them you don't want it until it's fixed. I talked to the general manager at my dealer and he called the buy back people and they're working out what they want to do. The thing is you gotta be willing to walk away from the bike, (for appearances sake at least), to show them you're serious. They don't want the bike back and will offer to do something. I still don't have a firm reply after 2 weeks but I know the GM is on the case and is working with someone in authority at MO Co.

I'll post as soon as I get a plan of action from the dealer. My thing is that for 20k I'm entitled to a smooth quiet tranny and a motor that has the correct fuel flow.

Been saying pretty much the same thing.
People need to band together and force the issue.
Works better though if bike is financed through HD credit.
I sent a cerified letter to HDMOCO asking a specific warranty question
just to get a signature that someone got it.
Because a lawyer is the next step on mine.
Been mysteriously running great after the wreck and dealer denying anything was fixed and I paid to put everything back to the way it was when I got it day one????? After dealer released it back to me in 100% stock condition.??????
Also would be great if as many people as possible would refuse to buy an 08. Hang in with what you got for another year. Let HD sit on them.

OK, I'm new to the forum but need to add my 2 cents. I live in Oregon City, Oregon, and bought a new '07 EGC 6/4/07. I have over 5,000 mi on it already, one trip to my parents who live in the Carson Valley, Nevada, and just returned from a trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. I love the way she handles, the ride and the looks of it, but I'm very disapointed with the way the engine runs so hot, which causes it to ping, and the noise form the tranny.

I can live with the wine from the straight cut gears in 1st and 5th, but the knocking noise drives me crazy. Seems like a lot of the complaints are coming form the touring bikes and I know that fairings have a tendency to almost amplify much of the top end noise. I was really surprized at how much clatter I get in sixth under 2500 RPM. I personally believe these bikes are geared to tall too. One plus though, you definitely know when your in fifth gear.

I traded in a 2001 Yamaha Roadstar (air cooled too) with 42,000 miles on it and never had a problem with it as far as engine pinging, even with the many rides to Arizona, in the summer too!

I complained to the dealer and they did a 103 remapp, and it runs pretty good around here, but get it in the heat, say above 95 degrees and she pings like crazy. Going into Yellowstone wehad a pretty strong head wind, I had to drop her down to 4th and keep the R's at a steady 3500 just to keep it from pinging. It was over 100 everyday in Yellowstone and I know it's an aircooled engine, and the EPA is responsible for the lean fuel mixture to make it pass smog, but you'd think the MoCo engineers could come up with a solution to the problem. One of the guys that rode with me has an '07 EGUC with Bassini's and the stage one package. I rode it and was totally surprized that it also pinged, not as bad as mine but it still pinged. I also bought some Rocket Fuel (octane booster) in Boise, Idaho, without much success.

I haven't called customer service yet but plan on it as soon as I get done with this e-mail. I wonder too if some guys that don't hear anything coming from the tranny still have the stock exhaust. Mine is, and until they get a fix for it I'm not going to spend any moneyon exhaust or upgrades. My dealer actually told me that pipes, full flow air filter and a race tuner would take care of it but why should I spend another $1,500 to make it run the way it should have when I bought it. Wonder what this going to do for the resale of the '07's?

I'm not new to the forum, not new to motorcycling anf have 11 months of dealing with a "noisy" '07 Ultra.

I believe there are three issues with the 'O7's none of which are going to help resale.
Clattering-I don't have this issue so I won't comment. The new IDS on '08's might improve this issue.
Pinging/Heat Issue- I installed slip-ons/A-C/SERT and had it dyno tuned at 1100 miles. Heat issue is gone even in 90+degree weather. Doesn't ping but never did
Whine in 5th gear: My lounder mufflers and heavier transmission gear oil (75w140) all but eliminated the whine. Will probably go to Redline Shockproof Heavy after reading posts with positive results.

"why should I spend another $1,500 to make it run the way it should have when I bought it." You shouldn't have to, and don't have to but the only other two options, it would appear you have, are ride it the way it is currently configured and hate it, or sell it. No one's going to get an argument from me about what you should or shouldn't have to do, but once you bought it..I don't see any other solution. The '08's have no changes in the tranny except for the addition of IDS and will "probably" run, unmodified as hot or hotter than the '07's. time will tell. Just my .04 (long post)

Duke, Have that harley man call Baker transmission. They already fixed the clatter.
They seem to have found 3 major problems with the 6 speed tranny in the fl models.
bearings toooooo small.
how there held in the case. (bearings)
gear 5th thetype of cut.

I spoke to Baker last December when they were getting ready to introduce the F6F fix for the 5th gear whine in the 6 speed transmission. It was my understanding this fix replaces the standard straight cut 5th gear with a helical set and they beefed up the bearings. It was my understanding this was a fix for the whine and that the clatter everyone referees to was a separate issue. Two questions:

1. Has anyone actually purchased and had this F6F installed on a noisy '07 FLH
2. Does this F6F kit eliminate the 5th gear whine, eliminate the clatter or both.

11 months into the '07 model year and 7 months into the F6F kit somebody on this forum must have purchased and installed one.

My Streetglides in Winchester, Va. torn down as I write this. Winchester H-D was great. But H-D customer service (John) acts as if they've never heard of a problem. There is a tight spot when you turn the input shaft on the tranny. Not every rev but every 2nd or 3rd? Bad roller in a bearing? Mine rattles so bad I got scared of it and went back to Winchester for warranty. I really don't think this problem can be that complicated. It's either the primary chain slapping or something in the trans. The primary self adjuster looks like good engineering, so my bet is the trans. Why doesn't everybody seem to have this problem? And why other than the $$ doesn't the MOCO step up and fix it? I'm not a disgruntled customer....yet. But $20,207.68 is a hell of a lot of money to me, and I expect...demand a good product for it. I really don't think I should have to shell out $1200.00 more to fix my trans. at 10,000 miles and 7 months. There I spoke my peace. By the way I've got a loaner, another SG, and it's noisier than mine!!! At 2500 miles.

Default RE: 07 tranny probs?

I have a 2007 Ultra Classic that I bought in September of 2006. I also have the problem with heat and 5th gear. I just don't have a whine, but a loud clatter, as if nuts and bolts rolling around in a helmet. I can't wait to get out of 5th gear, but it seems as if that is the gear that I am mostly in, with the riding I do. I put the heavier oil in at 1,000 mile service, but that did not help with the noise. I have 7,500 miles on it now, and it sure did not go away, or quite down like they said it might. If you talk to the guys at Harley, they make it sound like I'm the only one! After spending $25,000 dollars for the "top of the line", why should I have to put up with this. People riding next to me can hear it. I had a 2005 Road King Classic that I traded in, that had no problems with tranny noise. Now what do I do from here ???????

I mentioned this in another forum, but I rented an 07 Electraglide Classic with 600 miles on it and experienced the clatter. My take is that if you have a 96/6-speed, you have to change the way you've been riding a Harley V-twin. The 96, with its longer stroke, is designed to run at higher rpms than the 88. I did a lot of back road riding, where I was in the 45-65 mph range and the only way to use the 96 there is 4th and 5th gears. Don't even think of using 6th until you're at 70 mph. Don't try to put it under load at anything under 2400 rpm. The hammering that the long stroke on this bike produces at low rpms reverbrates throughout the bike. The clatter is likely the sound produced by the sum of all the clearances throughout the drive system from the compensator, primary sprockets, clutch, throughout the tranny as they react to the powerful stroke. The whine in 5th was not that bad on the bike I had. My main problem is that I've gotten used to running my 88 at low rpms and it's hard to get in the habit of revving the engine more to ride the 96.
