At 2000 RPM in 6th...the bikes shakes....not smooth at all. Would like it to be ok according to the manual should be able to shift into 6th starting at 55 mph. Are people able to ride comfortably in 6th at slower speeds?

I have a 07 Road King that I have just finnished taking a trip on. I think some of you should listen to your motorcycle and not the manual when shifting gears, yes the manual does mention shifting at 55, but it will work much btter if you shift into 6th around 63 to 65. Even the MOCO can get things wrong, i.e a manual. For many of you, it is your first Harley and you do not know what to expect, example is when I owned my 01 1200c, it made a horrible racket when shifting gears (very loud thunk). After taking the bike to the dealer several times, I came to realize, there was nothing wrong with the bike, it was just the design of the gears so I ended up spending 30,000 wonderful miles on the bike. I suggest giving the new bikes a chance to impress you, mine has certainly impressed me. If you still can't stand having an american made quality product, I suggest trading to a quality Jap bike. Just my 2 cents.

Absolutely! My 07' Ultra runs very smoothly in 6th at 60MPH (2100RPM) with no issues and great MPG (43). That said, for passing purposes or climbing steep up hill grades I'll downshift to 5th, or even 4th if necessary.

I never shift into 6th gear till at least 60 mph. No need to as the rpm levels are still low. Usaully don't shift to 6th gear till 65 mph. Just my opinion.

FYI- I talked to my HD service again today and they are hearing more complaints about the tranny noises but HD says there is NOTHING wrong.

2000 in 6th? LUGGING!!! Forget the data in the handbook, its wrong. What some dont get is, this is not a 88, its been stroked to 96, longer stroke means it tends to lug easier than a shorter stroke motor, if you are doing less than 2400 rpm in 6th, which is a overdrive gear you are lugging the motor, if on level ground you may not feel it, but come to a incline and you will, 5th gear is for about anywhere 70mph and below, at 70 in 5th, your only at 3000 rpm, learn to ride your bike as it should be and you will hear less and the motor will perform better.

Sorry gunrunner I respectfully disagree. Under normal cruise (not on incline) my 07' runs terrific at 2100RPM in 6th gear. No shake ,shutter or lugging. Gas mileage is very good as well - not s sign of lugging the motor. No, I'll stick with what the MOCO recommends. I have faith in them. However, only time will tell. I'll report my findings at the 75,000 mile mark.

Why is everybody thinking the problem is with the transmission? It has a whine in 5th..
What about that washing maching with the rocks it's hooked too?

And the LUGGING ISSUE, that's in the primary.. the compensator is a new animal..

I remember when Dad had his MANY Harleys, the low rumble it made at low speeds was the Harley trademark, can't remember any rattle..

My SG sitting at a light doesn't even sound like my DAD's harley, NO POTATO, POTATO, sound, sounds like a SHADOW...

Idle is at 950-1000 which I think is too high...

The Fuel Injection is ruining Harley... They need to go back to Carbreators...

I have looked everywhere for an exploded view of the new 07 Driveline and can't find one.
A trained Eye could identify the errors... I can understand why MOCO hasn't come up with any answers...

They Know, they just haven't sold enough yet...

No fuel injection isnt ruining harley, the tree huggers and the EPA is! They pick on a segment and regulate it to death when the truth is all bikes combined don't put out the harmful gasses in their lifetime as 10 commercial jets do on a single flight.

I posted this on another thread on here and thought it needed to be posted here as well!

I have the parade mapping in my 2007 Ultra Classic, Eric (Service Manager)at Carolina Harley Davidson 704-867-2855 says it effects idle up to 10% throttle..

My 2007 Ultra Classic started surging real bad at any steady throttle at any speed after 800 miles was on it, Eric through the parade mapping in it and it has been running great for the last 6,000+ miles...

The surging has never come back so that tells me the parade map works with the throttle open other wise my Ultra would still be surging..

You can take my info. (Erics info.) or leave it, thats up to who ever is reading this, it's your bike and your money, but for me it fixed my problem.

BTW: My 2007 Ultra Classic, rattles, clanks, whines in 5th gear, my wife bought it for my birthday because I said if Harley ever built a real motorcycle (IE engine and transmission I wanted one, so she went out and bought it for me. This is my first Harley in 40+ years of riding, I ride 50,000+ miles a year and in my younger days 100,000 miles a year was nothing for me, if I wanted another motorcycle that didn't rattle, clank and whine my wife would have got me another Goldwing for my birthday.

So I say if your 2007 Harley rattles, clanks and whines and it bothers anyone that rides a 2007 Harley you need to go down to your local Honda dealer and get a Goldwing..

I love my 2007 Ultra clanking, rattling, whining and all, my Wing has not turned a wheel in 30 days and 6,000+ miles that I've had my new Harley..
