I emailed several national news stations about the 07 issues.
I was very polite and just asked for them to look into/investigate the problems. Referenced the forum as a starting point. Who knows......maybe it will hit the national news soon
I hear ya. This is my first Harley too (which took a whole lot of negotiating with the wife after many years), and I would be extremely disappointed to be living with these problems. Listen, for what it's worth, I am in full support of whatever it takes to get HD to make this right on your bikes. Count me in for my signature on a petition, or whatever finally gets the ball rolling. Just because mine isn't making the noises as badly as the rest, doesn't necessarily mean it's right too. Who knows...?
How can I find out when my bike was manufactured? I would be interested for us to create a database and compare build dates, models, and types of issues. Just the fact that the problems vary from one build date to another is indicative in itself of a flaw in the manufacturing. They should all be built to the exact same specs and tolerances. Maybe y'all got the Monday morning or Friday afternoon bikes...
If you look on the neck/left hand side of the bike it will give you the manufacture date. You should've gotten a "birth certificate" as well when you bought the bike--its a small leather folder that has the certificate of origin. That will tell you what plant it was made in.
listen,,, when I remove my Full winshield and put on my shorty,,, I hardly hear the noise,,put the tall shield back on,, walaaaa
you guys with SG;s might not be getting the full monty
same with Kings maybe
Garbage ? That's too funny ! Compared to what ? No problems with mine at all , you act like you are the first one to put some loud pipesand change a air filter , been that way for ever. Maybe you should start trashing the E.P.A. cause you can thank them for the restrictions they follow.

Hd, we've got ourselves to blame. The politicians we elect - or don't bother to vote for, manage the E.P.A. When less than half of the population votes in general elections this is what we get. It's too bad really.
I've got a theory on why we hear the clattering comp sprocket much more so in 5th gear. We all know that an action creates an equal and opposite reaction. In fifth gear the engine force travels in a straight line through the gearing to the rear tire. The reaction from the rear tire travels back the same way to the engine. When shifted to helical gears (2,3,4,6) some of the reaction travels tangent to the direct line that connects the engine to the rear wheel. Thus the comp see less force and quiets down. Also, the IDS should dampen the action/reaction forces and help the comp out. Does this make any sense, or am I full of balony? Or am I just plain wrong. It's been a very long time since I attended physics classes.
Just wondering if there are any updates out there on what success anyone's having with the new Isolated Drive System? Have any of you gone out and purchased it yet and has it made a difference with the 5th gear clatter?
