It'll definitely bump up the sound by drilling any part of the pipe
I just found the M.O's just a bit too much for the long distance stuff I like to ride, so I installed BuB7 Stealths. Brought the Db down by 1.5 which is quite a bit and are ever bit as deep when pushing the throttle. 50 state compliant too.

Hey guys I'm putting on some V&Hines Staggered Shortshots Quite baffles on my 2009 XL1200N Sportster.I'm taking it down south for the winter to Lake Havasu AZ.I looked up the laws in AZ http://www.bars4bikers.com/laws-az.html .for the dba for motorcycles what they say is these taken at 50ft.from centrelane of travel <=35mph/35-45mph/>45mph. after1980 76dba/80dba/83dba So i noticed one post had a test done but it was only like 5ft at a 45% angle,dba was 105.Well what i'm getting is the blue nights must do there tests from 50ft back or am i reading this wrong and if i'm reading it right is this the way all dba tests are done.Now the reason i'm wondering is i don't want to get down south and find out there illegal,and have hauled the bike 1600 miles for nothing.Thanks in advance for anyone living in AZ that could give me any advice if your running the same pipes and if being hassled by the blue knights.

Don't worry about it. You're registered in NH right, you're allowed 106. Maine only messes with their own as far as noise when they get inspected. Unless you act like an idiot, you'll have no problem in Maine.
