I installed a Harley replacement with the Heim joint ends, I went ahead and bought one of the billet units so it looks better than the OEM unit.

Mine took a crap as I was merging onto a busy interstate riding 2 up. I go to catch 3rd gear and the shifter just flops under my foot. Meanwhile I'm in 70 mph traffic and cant get of of 2nd gear and a car actually passes me in my lane.

When I got home I did some searching on here and found out that it has a pretty high failure rate after 15K miles.

If the ball & socket is worn (the problem in my case), loctite won't do you much good. After a trip to the hardware store for 2 new heim joints (or "rod ends" as some folks call them) that won't happen again.
