Cop Clutch
Was wondering who out there knows the exact things that are different between the stock clutch set up and the cop bike set ups. I know it says Heavy Duty clutch but I am trying to find out why it is HD. I am going to do a SE clutch spring but am wondering if it is maybe already in there.
As I own 2 cop bikes an 06,and a 07, the only thing different for these models are a high output charging system,wiring to run siren and radios and other lights.. Run flat tires and an air ride seat.and that is it..Good luck..

It is listed as a HD clutch right from HD. This is the only reason I am trying to figure out what is in there. When you go to the police service manual it reverts right back to the normal book from the suppliment and says nothing is different. It is listed as a Heavy Duty Clutch though. Guess it will be a mystery until I get into it.

Will this help you?. This is for an '09. I have the parts manuals for both civilian and Police. The clutch assembly (that can be purchased as a whole) shows a different number. However, it looks to be that way due to a couple items that are different within that assembly. After looking at the numbers, it's the pressure plate and clutch spring that are different.

That does help a lot. I was thinking it was the spring, now I just need to find out what that spring rating is. It doesn't seem to match anything in the SE catalog. The quest continues. Thanks for the help though it helped quite a bit

There is no difference in the clutches. The part numbers listed are because in 2007 they began putting the 103 engine in the police bikes as standard as opposed to the 88, or 96 in civilian models. The only difference that I know of is in how the clutches are adjusted internally for training purposes to help with the heat build up between the plates.

The adjustment of a clutch has no effect on the poundage rating of the clutch spring and thus virtually no effect on the feel at the clutch lever. Therefor, when the Police models have a much harder pull than the civilian models, there's obviously a difference. Just for the hell of it I checked the ball-ramp p/n's on the tranny side to see if there might have been a difference. Nope. Also, I would venture to say that if there are different part numbers in the Factory HD parts manuals that they are indeed different. Two different part numbers for the same exact clutch? I doubt it. Interesting to note that the Police part numbers I listed were a new number in 2007. The OP has an '08. I'd say it's a safe bet he has those p/n's in his clutch assembly. The dealer should be able to confirm that.
FWIW, I have two '09's, one Police and one civilian. Big time difference in the clutches.

Your right on the money Butcher. My buddies '06 clutch feels way weaker than mine. I guess before I start to change anything I would love to know what is in there first. Thats the only reason I am asking. The part numbers explain it all. I guess a call to the MoCo on Monday morning is going to be the best bet. Thanks Butcher
