just noticed you want to get to Lake Erie also. If you're looking to avoid the Detroit traffic I'd run M52 or US23 down from Saginaw you can ride to Hell from either hwy and take M50 towards Monroe to Lake Erie. Then run M50 back to US12(also a nice road) and head west.

Thanks everyone for all the ideas. Really looking forward to just riding and sightseeing. We thought about taking the ferry across to Milwaukee but it is pretty expensive so I guess we'll just try going around and hit chi town early or late.

Thanks again all. See ya on the road !!!!

Just did 1,700 mile ride through Mich. Started at Marine City and went up the east shoreline, through the UP and back down the west shore. Don't miss the Soo locks. Stay at the cottages right across from the locks. See Whitefish Point., The falls. Hessel in the UP has an antique boat show.

The ride through the trees starts in Harbor Springs and ends in Cross Village. Or you can go the other way if you are coming back from the UP. Just outline a map and follow the shorelines as they are most scenic. Never had a problem getting a room. If you go to Whitefish point you have to stay in Paradise 11 mile south.

If in the Dearborn area be sure to visit the Ford Rouge site. Tours start at the World Headquarters in Dearborn. Don't miss Greenfield Museum. I think they call it the "Ford" now forwhatever reason.

If you go to Sault Ste. Marie or St Ignace or Manistee hit the Clyde's Drive in. Great shakes, fires and loose meat burgers. Antler's in the Soo is also another good place.

Legg's Inn is also really great place.
