Delivery time on Special Order 2011's?
I have on order a 2011 Sedona Orange Road King with ABS, Security and Cruise Control. I made my purchase through military sales (ENCS) and have an expected delivery date of approx December 14th. Was told it is a special order that they have submitted to the MoCo.
I placed the order and deposit on 8/19 and have no further info other than they say they are waiting to hear back from the factory on a build date even though it has been almost 2 weeks.
I thought that December seemed a little excessive amount of time for a bike ordered in August but figured maybe because I was ordering outside of the dealer that things might be a little different. I'm now seeing some threads that if a customer walks into the dealer and what they want is not on the floor or available in a swap they may be waiting until late November/December if they have to order as well.
Is this a unique situation for me because I am ordering it through military sales (3.5-4 month wait) or is this standard on all special orders?

Let me ask this....are the assembly lines tooled up to build a certain run of bikes like from this date to this date we will build a run of Road Kings and from this date to this date we will retool and build Sportsters etc...I know that sounds simplistic but hopefully the meaning is understood.
I thought I read that Road Kings are assembled in York PA? Does that factory just produce Road Kings or other models as well?

Military sales is a whole different situation...
A bit of advice, don't bug the delivering dealer. The motor company doesn't compensate them really well for the service. Most of the dealers in my area have actually pulled out of the program.
The dealer I'm having the bike delivered to has been nothing short of fantastic. I had originally asked if they could match the military pricing. They said they could not but would be more than happy to arrange delivery. They have actually made contact with me thanking me for serving and saying they will be notifying me when the bike is to be delivered etc...
I did some reading on the HD website and found answers as far as what plant does what, thanks for the insight! I wouldn't mind taking a tour there next time I head the Gettysburg way.
Really hoping it is delivered sometime in October..I would love to be able to take a few rides before the white stuff begins to fly
