I am looking for some suggestions.
I was riding down the road the other day and my engine light and battery light came on. The voltage meter showed around 10 volts also. I stopped and turned the ignition off, restarted the bike and everything is fine. No warning lights on and volt meter is up to 14 again. I rode around the rest of the day and all is fine. Next day on my way home from work here she goes again with the warning lights.
I got home and checked the trouble codes. The only code it shows is P0562 which is low battery voltage. I plan on cleaning the battery connections and ground connections today to see if that helps. Any other suggestions? Is the charging system going bad?
Thanks!
Don
just went thru this. battery will NOT cause this problem. start with the regulator.
I installed the new battery and as of now everything appears to be working. That is the voltmeter shows back to normal voltage. I still need to check out the charging system though to verify there is nothing wrong and I only had a bad battery.
Someone earlier gave me instructions on how to check the stator. Can anybody tell me how I can check the voltage regulator?
UPDATE: I installed my new regulator and went for a half hour ride and the volt meter stayed at or above 14 volts. Also when I removed the old regulator the date code fell inside the window for the recalled regulators. Based on these factors I'm confident my problem was the regulator. I plan on going for a long ride this weekend so if I am wrong and have further problems I will let you know.
i had a stator go south on me a few years ago on another harley of mine. it was easy to find out where the problem was. check the dumb stuff first. it sounds like your battery is in need of replacing. they only last so long.
