Is the noise coming from the front of the primary? My bike has 750 miles on it and I'm taking it to shop Wed because their is a rattling sound coming form the front of the primary. I happened to run in to one of the shops techs this weekend and he said something was loose on/in the clutch. That sucks.
Could also be the compensator sprocket in the primary. It hasn't happened to me, knock on wood, but that's exactly how I have read that failure described many times before. Not a bad fix...providing it didn't do any collateral damage. If you lost the compensator, find out if they will upgrade to the SE compensator. That's how they should have been built anyway. Search this forum for the SE comp, lots of good info out there. Good luck, Sir.
I questioned the compensator when I dropped it off, they are suppose to check it too. But, most of the noise is coming out of the right side of the tranny.
I broke the drive belt a few years back and took it to my local HD shop and for some reason they got into the clutch, and when they went back with it the did not use new bolts with the loctight on them and consequently the bolts backed out and gave me a heck of a noise. Lucky I got it in and new bolts put in under warranty. Scarry.
So, they have now had my bike for 32 days. Needless to say I am one mad MF. First it was a back-ordered bearing for 2 1/2 weeks. That came in, they put it back together, trans was still making a noise. Called their tech services, was told to change this and that too. Tore it back apart, did what they were told, still makes noise. They call the MoCo again, they ship out a new trans pack. That was Tuesday before last. I call today to find out where in the hell my bike is and am told the pack hasn't arrived yet and they're not even showing a tracking number in the computer yet. So I call Harley customer service who tells me they are showing that the pack was delivered to Gruene Harley 2 days ago, but Gruene says they are backed-up and won't be able to start on it until next week and they have no control over that, I will have to take it up with Gruene. So. I call back to Gruene and they say they don't show the part as being delivered but they are looking into it. W T F!
