After all the negatives I've read on the bike here in the Forum, I had to give it a ride at the Open House today. We followed a leader and went through the city and up on the Interstate and back onto the city streets....about a 20 minute ride in total. If you rode a bone stock TC88 and jumped on this bike, you'd certainly feel the difference in the torque increase across the range. Gear ratios are good. Yes, you can tell when you are in fifth....it has a whine. But the stock bike is so quiet......instantly noticeable.....that a change in exhausts would probably make the whine far less evident. This bike had a quiet tranny...none of the "rocks in a can" noise that some have experienced.
Overall, I believe the concept is an improvement over the '06 without a doubt. With a deeper exhaust note, it'll be fine. I'd expect most of us would be happy with it without any cam changes or even an air filter change on the performance side. But if heat becomes an issue, then some changes would be in order.
It's a good platform. I'd like to spend more time with it and wring it out a little, especially passing in 6th, but first impressions were positive.
I've been counting and if my estimates are correct, there are more negatives than possitives about the "07 Ultra. Don't know about the other models.
Both of the nearest dealers have one each '07 Ultra's back for the same transmission warranty work. One of them with an over heating problem. I know this because I know the 2 guys that bought them.
My interpretations of the so-called compaints have been coming from those coming from a modified prior year and having greater expectations from the 96in motor. Also, most of us have exhaust upgrades, and the '07 stock exhaust is fairly quiet in comparison....allow more engine noise to be heard.
My dealer seems to be pretty happy with the '07's. He happens to be a personal friend, and he tells me that he can't keep them on the floor long enough. He also showed me his shop, and there weren't any '07's in for work. I guess that's a good sign.
just got mine home from the dealer 120 miles one way trip, yes it does have a clatter in 5th , but overall a great improvement over my 01 ,can't wait to get 500 miles on it to hit the open highway to see what that 6th gear will do ,great radio ,also have reinhearts order for it , but it does put out some heat . great bike .
