Default Test rode '07 Ultra yesterday

While debating Stage II on my '96 UC or buying a new bike, I tested a new FLHTCU and these are my impressions. The '07 feels like it has less torque than my stock '96 but rides smoother and has adequate power for one-up riding. The 6th gear torque isn't great but there's enough there to climb most highway hills or pass in a safe manner. 70 MPH to 90 MPH was probably as quick as on my '96. There is some weird vibes in 5th gear. Don't know what that's about. The exhaust note is OK but not what one would expect from HD. From late August/early September, my bike lost about 5K in tradein value, according to the stealer (offered only average NADA, even though the sales guy rated mine a 9.5). Dealer wanted $14671 to trade yesterday, up from an offer of 11K back in Sept. Looks like the out-the-door price of the '07 might have dropped a little, as the SM was willing to dicker some. All that being said, looks like the Stage II project is on for this winter. That will run about 2K if I have my local indepenent shop do the work. Now if I can just find a descent upgrade for the radio, I'll be all set for some serious riding.

I was at the dealer a couple of weeks ago and they were doing their demo ride thing. They asked if I wanted to take one out and I refused. I really have no interest in riding one. I'm perfectly happy with my 06. I was suprised there weren't more people there riding the bikes but it was a bit cold out. Personally, I thought it was perfect out. They were shocked when I turned down their offer. Guess many people aren't doing that these days.

Yeah, if I bought an '06, I wouldn't want to ride an '07 either.

Exact same bike as the 06 just with more power, a 6th speed tranny and an improved security system. I wouldn't want it either.

HA!! Ya'll sit back an' turn them rides down - means ah'll have a better shot at a test ride next weekend. Me an' the missus are gonna git thar early, an' try one on fer size.

Only down side is all the stuff ah'll hafta do if we end up buyin' it........strobe kits, trailer hookup, etc.. Hmmmm.....ah best go look ta see how mah stock of solder terminals is doin'!

While ah'm on that subject - what's the output vs. runnin' requirements on the alternator, anyone know? Tryin' ta figger out iffen ah'm gonna go LED or traditional strobes........

I don't know the output numbers but between LEDS and a traditional incandescent light or strobe, I would go with the LED's. Less energy consumption and much longer life.

My dealer had demo day yesterday. There were lines of people test ride. They had 15 bikes, only one SG, mostly Softails and Dynas. The test ride was 12 miles long and the bikes were spoken for the rest of the day. I am not sure how many people bought one though. I rode the SG, it is a nice bike! I still dont see a big enough difference in the 96 to make anyone trade in a 88 for it, unless the 88ci is worn out or they want a different type of bike.

I must not be happy with mine. Thanks for enlightening me. Running out to the dealer now. Right.
