Yesterday my dealer had a Test our Metal day so i decided to go and see for myself what the 07's were all about.
First of all let me start this by saying that I have an 06 FLHXI with a stage 1 and am very happy with It.
I tried 3 bikes: Street Bob, Road glide and the Street Glide.
Strett Bob was cool but NOT for me, no wind protection, foot control position, mimi apes.. but still cool to try.
In all 3 bikes I was listening very closley for any transmission noises especially in 5 th gear as has been repported here. I found all 3 bike to be very smooth, actually smoother than my 06, no noise out of the ordinary whatsoever. Really like that 6th gear
As far as the engine, in all honesty I could not feel any difference between my stock 88 with Stage 1, air cleaner and pipes and the stock 96( FLHXI and Road Glide ). Maybe a dyno would disagree with me but I am talking from the seat of my pants.
The stock exhaust noise is certainly better than in 06.
In short I enjoyed my day, but I will not be rushing out to place an order for an 07 anytime soon.
Just think what an 07 with stage 1 will feel like. I'm guessing it will perform about as good as my old '99 RKC w/ big bore. They probably won't have the top end my old bike did, but the low end grunt should be as good or better.
