Default From a dealer, True or False?

Just stopped by the local dealers service department to discuss some tuning & exhaust options. While we were talking about the number of people that didn't like the 2010 2 into 1 exhaust the service geek blurts out; "In at least two states you have to have the dot cert. on the exhaust. You can't even bring a bike in for an oil change if you have a modified exhaust."

I'm used to questionable statements from dealer employees, but I hadn't heard that one. I don't believe it, but thought I'd throw it out here in case anyone has heard similar. Comments?

I would tend to believe that in the PRK (People's Republic of Kalifornia).

Sounds bogus. Can't change oil if exhaust is changed? Did he know which states he's telling stories about?

SIMPLE, tell the service geek' to show you, or prove his statement is true

Nope - since we get to ride 12 months a year here, have so many beautiful places to ride, and need every penny put into the economy we can, the dealers are more than happy to do oil changes on anything you can get to the service bays.

Service people are the same as any other group of humans - half of 'em are below average. The less people know, the more they repeat stupid stuff they've heard.

Plenty now require cert on exhaust or they may ticket you, but I dont know any place you cant get an oil change because of it. This means you cant wrench a race bike ? sounds like BS

I just got a notice that in NJ Motorcycles are NO LONGER REQUIRED to be inspected.
We are to remove our stickers (once the month expires on the sticker) and have a nice day...
