Damn that's cool!
Care to share your MOST memorable ride???
Is she still stable on the road?
I'm planning the same with my 07 one day. I figure only 2 more trans rebuilds (at least) and she'll make it!

By installing a new cover with it's new cam bushing you might have tightened up the cam to pinion gear lash. This might result in a slight whine. If it's not too excessive it will be o.k. If it's too tight it may cause damage. Get an experienced tech. to listen to it.

It is an EVO - there should be no whirring noises in the cam chest especially ones that change in pitch relative to engine speed. Need to check your lifters, the cam and cam bearing before riding it too much longer.

Congrats on the milage. Old Evo's can still make it happen !!!!

I'm not seeing anything unusual in the oil and it changes pitch with the engine speed. I don't know if I should worry about it or do something about it.

Memory's not what it used to be, and it's been awhile, but don't those cone covers use a brass or bronze spacer/shim about 1/8" thick? They come in varying thickness', as all cones are not created equal. ie, polished alum and chrome covers, the chrome needs a thicker one. Like I said it's been awhile and I may be thinking of an even older model, and be wrong all together, but I thought it might be worth mentioning. If you changed covers and not the spacer, that might be the reason for the noise. Might be worth looking into.

congrats on reaching that milestone, I mean 100,000 is pretty impressive! I got a long way to go, but I plan on keeping her that long, so maybe someday I will also reach that milestone! Again, congrats and ride safe!

Well I finally took the time to swing by the dealer that is close by work and got the service dept manager to to take a listen and explained everything to him and he said that it could just be that the end play on the cam shaft is a little tight or that there was just enough movement with the new cone that changed the position of either the cam shaft or the pinion but since I'm not seeing any metal debris in the oil pan that there is probably nothing to worry about. If it bothers me too much then I can always take it apart and recheck everything. But since my performance and mileage have not been affected and everything else feels right I'm not going to worry about it.

He also mentioned that I could get a refurbed engine for it since I was talking about going through it and checking everything since I'm over 100k on it. He said it actually works out cheaper doing that than rebuilding it and if I have them do it I get a 1 year warranty. Something to think about but it will take a little time as I don't have $3500.00 just laying around. Always some sort of detail isn't it!

The cam bushing, as some one else called it, is the same part I mentioned earlier. They come in varying thickness' and that is the way you adjust the cam end play. They vary by .001", you check end play measure the thickness of the bushing you have and go thicker or thinner by whatever is needed. Not to expensive, just the bushing needed and a new gasket. Just saying is all, you may not see any metal in the oil pan as it is staying in the cone, and not getting flushed to the pan. Just trying to help.
