I put 10k+ on a bike annually. On my 1800VTX I eventally went with a car tire to ease the pain of replacing tires about every 10 months. Ive never run an aftermarket wheel.
I really like the look of the 21" front wheel. I love spokes, dont mind running tubes (in the beginning thats all we had).
The misses has a FatBob so we dont ride 2-up.
My thoughts/questions/concerns on aftermarket wheels and tires are:
1. Will a 21/18 eat tires like a fat chick at Krispy Kreme considering my 10k per year riding?
2. Will a 21/16 wear better, cant really see the caboose under the bags anyway.
3. Fat spokes or cast chrome? I dont mind cleaning spokes, I love spokes.
2009 Electra Glide Standard, denim black, possible repaint to 2005 Ford Redfire this winter, I havent decided.
I'm not sure how long the 21" will last on the front. I have only had mine on for about 1000miles. That being said I have the Metzler on the front and it doesn't look like it comes with much tread. I guess time will tell. I left the 16" on the rear of mine and do not regret it at all.
As far as spokes go, I love the Fat Spokes! Congrats to both you and your wife on the new bikes! I don't know if you noticed the Sedona Orange Street Glide parked out front of HD of Macon the day you bought them but that was my bike.
