Few years ago a man beat another man 80 years old to death in front of a major
downtown grocery store. No one did a thing to stop the beating. The 80 year old man was a retired school teacher. The perp was about 35 years old. But he had a mental condition which caused him to attack the old man. Yeah right.

There have been studies indicating if there are one or two bystanders then they will get involved but if there is a large crowd most mentally "freeze" thinking someone else will step in.
