This may have already been posted? I'm sure some are already doing it, But for the new Wrencher's doing service on their Bikes and are still using the torx head screws in the Derby Cover. Use a T-30 socket instead of the T-27. It works good. I haven't had any problems with the Torx head screws, but I read on here all the time where people are having problems. Try the T-30 and see how you like it. Hope this helps!

 

Hmm - or you could get a higher quality T-27. Mine all fit just right. I seriously don't think my T-30 tools would fit.

 

Try it and let me know Davessworks. I don't think the quality of the Torx bit would have anything to do with size. Maybe strength as not to break or strip, but not actual size. Anyway, are you saying my tools are cheap....LOL. I don't buy Snapon, But I do have quality tools.

 

Just tried my Craftsman T30 for giggles and it would not fit either. The rule for me is that all torx on the FLHT are T27 until proven otherwise. A quality set of torx sockets are a must. I didn't have a problem with any of the torx fasteners during the build.

 

I was told by the snap-on tool guy that late model harleys have a different kind of torx's. Instead of the sharp corners, the new one's are rounded,and before i get blasted,if you look close they are different.

 

The problem with people stripping the torx screws on the derby cover is usually from them using a T25 and not a T27. I always use the tool that's called for, can't see using a T30 when the manual calls for a T27.

 

Stripped 3 of mine using a T-27. I was told by a HD tech to go one size larger an a impact hammer to get them out. Worked like a charm, now I have hex head.

 

I have a quality set of Torx sockets made by Armstrong. Had them for years. Never used much until started working on the Harley's. My T-30 fit's tight in the Derby cover bolts.

I just tried the t-30 on my 09 Classic.The tip of the bit just slightly goes into the t-27 head on the bolt.Not a very secure fit.I'll continue to use the T-27 bit on the T-27 bolt.
