Default Smart Security lamp on while riding

While on a ride yesterday my security key light came on while riding and stayed on for an hour or more 'til I turned off the ignition. I don't know if it was on when I first started the trip, but I noticed it probably 50 miles down the road. After the next restart it didn't illuminate for the remainder of the trip, which was another two hours of riding.

The owners manual says "If the key light stays on while riding, see your HD dealer." The service manual just says "If the lamp remains on beyond the eight-second period, a current DTC exists." The engine check lamp never illuminated, which I assume means there is no historical code present.

Anyone experience this before? Could it be a weak battery? This battery is two years old.

Hello, I just got my '09 RK about a month ago and I have had that problem a couple of times and just pulled off and shut everything down and restarted. The only thing I noticed is if I wait to start the bike until the key light has gone off I don't have the problem. Sorry I'm not much help but figured I would toss in my experiences.

Check your codes and see what happens. I took off my front signals and this caused it to light recently on my ride.

Yes on both counts, but the Kury controller has been on the bike for almost four years and the LED rear light over one year, but this is the first time I've noticed the key light staying on.

well I know they do make some kind of filter for that, I was told it can happen so often but it dosnt affect the alarm function when the light does come on. Keep a eye on it and if it happens again you might want to check into this, I know custom dynamics sells the part.

I always thought that if you had a stored code the engine check light would illuminate, but this isn't so. I checked my codes and found B-1122 in the "S" section (security), which means "right turn signal open." IOW, a bad bulb? Both are working at this time and I haven't seen the key light since that one incident. I will pull both bulbs and clean the contacts, as they may be corroded.
