Default 1000 maintenance schedule

I have a 2007 ultra classic and the milage is about to reach 1000 miles and I'm debating whether to take my bike to the dealer and charge me $$$$ for the schedule 1000 maintenance or should I just do the maintenance myself and save me $$$$. Is it easy to chage to oil, filter and transmission lubricants? Any help would be appreaciated.

The 1000 mile service isn't just a fluids change. Read your owner's manual and see what it covers. I'd recommend BelRay Hypoid in the transmission and your choice of synthetic in the other holes. Fluid changes are easy. You can do this and don't forget to change the oil filter.

But I'd pay the dealer for the 1000 mile service..........then do the rest of the fluid changes myself. Don't scrimp on your maintenance.......take care of that bike and it will take care of you.

Another great investment is the Fix My Hog DVD for Touring Models - it will show you very clearly how to do everything with great explanations. And if you can see someone else do it, it's easy to do yourself.

I agree. Just make sure they do all that is required. Often times they do just change lubricants and filter. If they actually do what is required it is money well spent. And I might add that the thousand mile service is the most important you will have if done according to the book as that is when major adjustments are done so that all the components are in sync with each other.

You asked "is it hard to change the oil" that pretty much shows that your a beginner at the mechanical end at least.... so do yourself a favor for down the road.... pay to have the 1000 mile service done..... look how much you paid for that bike - its worth a little bit of money to keep it running right

When ya take it in, be sure to leave the keys to your saddle bags so they can check your rear wheel alignment and drive belt tension.

Although I can do a lot of the stuff listed in the maintenance section, I take mine to the dealer every 5K, even though it is a little costly. Shop foreman assures me they do each check listed. I just feel better riding at 70 mph if a good shop looks it over.
