Default SE Compensator

All I can say is... WOW! After reading several posts here about the benefits of this mod... and since I had plenty of reward points from my local dealer... I had the Screamin' Eagle compensator installed today on my 09 Road Glide. Thank you HD Forums for all the great info! The bike now starts much easier, no more cough, sneeze... try to run backwards. The trans. shifts better and there is no more clunk when accelerating two up fully loaded. I think I read the 11's come stock with SE Comp and I know why. HD made the 09 stock unit too weak IMHO. It's like riding a new bike! I highly recommend it to any FL owners who want a smoother machine.

What was the labor cost for the install ? Can a fairly competent do it yourself tackle the job or are special tools required ? I am thinking of getting this for my 07 Road King.

Super easy! The only odd tools needed are 1 3/8th (?) socket for the clutch nut, and a locker bar, which you can buy or make from some 1/4" X 1" X6" bar stock.
Also a long breaker bar for the Comp bolt and Clutch nut, they're on there tight.
Highly recomend a 1/2" ft/lb torque wrench for the above.
Plenty of help if you do a search too.
You'll have to remove the inner primary or grind it for clearance to get the Comp bowls off and on.
Should be able to re-use all gaskets.

My dealer said it would be $120 to install if that helps someone. I'm debating on doing it myself though. Have all the wrenches and stuff just just a little leary about grinding the case. How much needs to be removed anyway?

Bought one yesterday and plan to install it Saturday morning. Hoping for a big improvement. Had the labor quoted at two local Harley shops ranging from $131.00 to $150.00.

My stock comp came apart and had to be replaced. From what the shop told me that the '09s are known to have a common problem with weak compensators. I don't know if that is true or not. I'm picking up my bike tomorrow. yay!!!!!

this link shows the amount of primary lip that needs to be removed doesnt seem like much, also read somewhere that if you loosen the bolts attaching the primary without totally removing them that it will allow removal of the compensator bowl without grinding the primary lip, protect everything left in the primary case with rags and tape to prevent any shavings from being left haven't tried this myself yet just information from research
