It's probably just a matter of time before K&N comes out with a replacement element for the Heavy breather that should boost it's airflow up a notch or two. My only problem with it is that it is an open element and requires a rain sock. I often find myself riding in the rain and would prefer not to have to hassle with putting that sock on.
Run open face and put a cool looking front cover on it.
You really don't want people to mistake you for being a sportster w/a bath tub AC on do ya? There's better, but open face suffice with a cool front cover on em'.
i am interested in this unit since i have to replace my compact heavy breater, installed glove boxes for lowers on my 2008 Road Glide. but the catalog says its for 2009 touring models will it still work on 2008
I have been wondering this as well for my '08 Ultra, they have TBW and am guessing it should be the same as '09 and up bikes?
Any fellow '08 owners done this?
I love the looks of it, and the performance is not an issue.
works GREAT on my bike!
I got lucky and picked mine up off ebay for $25.00 shipped!
all I had to do was order the Screamin' Eagle badge for it, because it came off a CVO bike and had the 110 badge..
other than that, it was perfect!
1. Don't worry about flow, it's fine. The 96 can't draw anywhere near the cfm limit of the filter even past redline. Doesn't matter how hot of cams. 96 inches times so many revs divided by 2 if I remember my math. Normally aspirated and I'm sure ours all are.
2. Way more legroom than any other popular setup. And I mean a really noticeable amount!
3. Never once used the rain sock and I'm in Oregon. It's been raining all week and its my daily driver. I was paranoid the first few times, but no issue at all for any kind of rain I'd care to ride in anyway. Can always put the sock on and it looks okay. No spitting, coughing, etc and no moisture in the oil.
4. Minor issue: I notice more oil fogging from the breathers. Gotta wipe a drip now and then from the bottom of the thing. It's not the fault of the a/c. If anything, I think the thing flows too fast to generate sufficient vacuum where the breathers come in. At least seems that is what the moco backplate changes might be doing. Lots of breather fixes posted.
I bought an extra rain sock on ebay for $8 and slipped it over the filter under the chrome cover. I punched a small hole thru the rain sock and put the chrome cover back on over the sock. The sock completely wraps the filter and adds a different look to the set-up. No worries about rain and keeps the bugs/debris out of the filter pleats. No noticeable difference in running it with the sock on but at most it'd be a tad richer. When I get the bike tuned after my cam/head work I will have it tuned with the sock on.
