IMHO you can have very close to the best of both worlds by tuning for mileage in the cruise range. As mentioned earlier two maps with a switch is a good idea.
Where would I find this switch for selecting one map or another? Thanks

Here's a link on the map switch install that I did on my bike. I used a Harley rocker switch with the led and wired it so that the led would light when the switch is on (which takes slightly more work than to not worry about the light). I ran the wired down the frame backbone, under the tank to the PCV.

if you email me your custom map and the map you were running when you got the 48 mpg....I will make you a map where you should get that gas mileage just cruising. What I will do is take your custom map and in the throttle/rpm ranges that are used during cruise...I will look at the other map and transpose the numbers. That should give you the best of both worlds...lol. email address is yardstick991056@yahoo.com

Read Kuten's thread on setting-up a map switch, as there's a lot of good info and ideas there. I used a spare ACC switch from HD, and you can either wire it straight into the PCV or use a relay so the LED light will work. I described how to wire the relay in a recent post on that thread. Any on-off switch will work, so you have a lot of options. DJ does list a switch on their website but it's hard to find and you'll have to dig for it, and although it has a handlebar mount (7/8") it won't fit typical HD 1"-diameter handlebars.

I would also tweak your two maps a bit. If the econ map doesn't decel-pop, take the values in the 0% TP and copy them to the other map. That should get rid of popping on both maps.

If I am not mistaken the PCIII does not have the capability for two maps only the PC V. If I am wrong....someone correct me as I am new to the power commander series.

I do have a good grasp what they do and how they do it and what the numbers mean in a map. I like the PC V because of the autotune function and the wideband o2 sensors. I used a different system on an 07 and had great results. The PC V with AT and the Thundermax are very simple systems to use and fairly hard to do something really wrong if you are careful.

The PC website has something called LCD display. This thing has the SD slot where you can store two maps. You are supposed to be able to switch between 2 maps on the fly. This LCD will work with the PC III. Unfortunatelly it costs $199.00.

True. If I were you I'd dial in one of the maps you have. Probably the custom.
