You might try lowering the values in the cruise range on your custom map. It might give you the best of both worlds. Cruise would be throttle position up to 20% and rpms up to 3000.
Worked for me.
I ride a 08 Ultra 103 CI 255 SE cams. The custom map makes the bike run very nice with crisp throttle response but I only get 38 MPG. With the custom map the bike runs a bit cooler but with a lot decel popping. The custom map allows me to get a couple more horses and a couple more pounds of tourque.
Today I put the Power Commander map on the bike and I got 48 MPG which is excellent. It looks like I lost a bit of power and throttle response and the bike is running a little bit hotter. It seems to me that the bike is now running like it was meant to run. No decel pop and a bit warmer. A little leaner and great mileage.
Is it worth it to keep the bike running cooler with a custom map, 38 MPG and lots decel popping or stay with Power Commander map with no decel popping, warmer bike and 48 MPG?
How can you tell in 1 day that you picked up 10MPG. I find that my bikes mileage verys drastically depending on how and where I'm riding. My bike over a summer probably averages about 40MPG.
Sounds like you need your custom map "tweaked". When you have a custom map created you have to be very clear with your tuner of your expectations. Most tuners will assume you're after a big number and when tuned that way your mileage will usually suffer.
Speaking of mileage, I was very clear about what I wanted. I did not want max HP or tork, I wanted a happy medium between power and mileage. The AFR is set at about 13.8, pretty flat line across the board. And my mileage sucks like it was 13.1 and I am jumping on it all the time, I get about 33/34 mpg cruising all day. I was expecting maybe 38 mpg. Do you think there is a problem with the tuning? Should I give them a call? The only change I did to it was add a little fuel in the 0% throttle range for popping.
Seems that most tuners shoot for about 13.2 for a full throttle roll on. That's what you should see at the bottom of your chart. What you don't see is the AFR for all the throttle positions and rpms.
IMHO you can have very close to the best of both worlds by tuning for mileage in the cruise range. As mentioned earlier two maps with a switch is a good idea.

I might just do that. I am just a bit scared of messing it all up but I may not have a choice. Thank you for the advice.

You have a great point. I can't tell for sure that I really picked up 10 MPG based only on half a tank of gas but I guarrantee you I picked up a significant amount. For the first 40 miles of the trip, the gas gage did not move and that just did not happened before.
I going to check my mileage several more times using a GPS just to make sure the miles traveled are accurate.

You have a very good point. My tuner knows my riding style and he tuned it for ridebility. I think he did a fine job and I love the way the bike runs with the custom map except for the mileage and decel popping.

Not hard to do just be sure to save your work and give a description and or name to the maps. I have several that I have tried and keep them on two computers to cover my butt.
Why don't you just put in a switch & use one map for performance and the other for fuel mileage? That's the great thing about a PCV.
Where can I find this switch? I looked on the PC website and could not find anything about a switch that would allow me to select 2 different maps. Thanks
