Motorcycle, car, truck.....it don't matter. During the 1st year of a new model run, problems always surface. Those problems are worked out, until the last year of the run is great !! THEN they make a major modification, and the vicious circle starts again !!

Ah yes, the grand old American custom of "Quality Control by the Customer."

Yep I gotta agree...-- Got my 07 Toyota FJ- - seems some folks have problems like roof leaks, etc...(not mine knock on wood -I'm completely satisfied!- but I will keep an eye out!) -- found out about it through the www.FJcruiserforums.com

And just in the news this past week- The US auto makers wonder why sales are down and International car sales are up. Their answer? Add on more warranty so they can continue to fix problems that they have control over to begin with. Amazing!
People just need to give the MoCo a chance to work out some of the problems. This always happens when many changes are made or new models are introduced. Don't scrap them, report the problem so they can be worked out.
Easy talk from someone who does not have 20 grand or more out and feels like they don't have a good ride. I have one of the first 06 Street Glide and never had any problems, just had to wait on a fuel tuner. Had my injectors changed but that did not stop me from riding. I do admit I traded my Road King in to quick when I bought the SG because they got my bike three weeks before the new one showed up, that won't happen again plus from now on I will only buy after bikes changes have been out long enough to see what can be done to the bikes and if there are any problems.
I disagree, perhaps 20 years ago that response may have been OK, today is today, they had the "chance", it's called R&D prior to ANY design going into the field, after all this is NOT Rocket Design,
This motor has been tested hundreds of thousands of miles, test riders have been riding these for two years, go over to taledaga alabama and hang out and you can see what will be here in 09! the six speed was also introduced in 05 for the 06 dynas, its just a few bugs with a handful of bikes, same as every year.

Ron....er Lon.....the name is Paul! They told you to keep driving it because there is no code showing on the scanner. What if it dies in the middle of an intersection or during a pass of an 18 wheeler on a 2 lane highway? The '03 touring models had a recall on the main breaker when the engine got too hot.....bike dies. Maybe your main breaker is at fault.
I've been riding Harleys since 1993.....and have owned 8. Obviously a loyal customer, Life HOG member, etc. They put a bazillion miles on the VRod before introduction. Why didn't HD run the bejeeeeeezus out of this new drivetrain before intro? Pressure to keep up with the cubic inch war? Pressure from the EPA regs? Probably. Some warranty issues are expected and budgeted/planned for, but this is kinda over the top if you ask me. A transmission isn't a fuse, a code, a tweak, a breaker replacement.......this is a big-buck model year killer.

I agree it's most likely not a design flaw but a manufacturing flaw of some kind.
