Default Hard Bag Question

I currently have a 2008 RK Classic. It has the stock hard leather bags but I am looking at getting a set of hard bags. I have come across a few on craigslist but none of them seem to have the latches. What would i need to buy in order for them to be useable? Is it simply just buying a new latch or do i need to get something from the dealer so i would be be able to lock them? I see where Kuryakyn sells latches but I am assuming these are just latch covers not the actual latch? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

you can buy the locks at the dealer, i think i paid 50 for 2 locks with keys when i did them on my roadie, they should be able to match the locks with your existing key i would think.

You need to check out a parts manual. The parts list for all of the hardware for a set of bags is rather long and adds up to a good bit of $$ if you buy it from a dealer.

The hardware you need all depends on how much the bag has left on it.
If the bag is stripped then it might be an expensive bill at the dealer.........

You will need the latch assembly and all the related parts. I looked in my parts book.

I would suggest that you keep looking until you can find the saddlebag lids complete with latches. I've seen them on Ebay occasionally.

Set up a search on Ebay for "Harley saddlebags" and "Harley saddlebag lid" and have email notifications sent to you. This way you'll get daily reminders when new parts are listed.

I just did a search myself and found at least one complete set with latches.

Unless you get a really great deal on hardbags, I would look for a set with everything on them.

I was pretty lucky finding a set for my RKC.

I know that this isn't the place to make a sale, but I bought a nice set of hardbags with latches and key off of Ebay with the intent of turning my softail into a bagger. Instead, I went out and bought an Ultra. Now these bags sit in my garage, waiting to be purchased. Let me know if you're interested.
