My pads are a bit rugged looking, partially due to me putting them on and off the rotor and scraping them on the top of the rotor. I think I should just go ahead and replace the pads. Also, I guess I should invest in a rebuild kit for the calipers. I am stuck right now because due to fluid leak I can no longer build enough pressure in the system to extend the pistons and remove them. I did take the bridge bolts out but can't get the pistons out. I do not have any DOT4 handy so this project is on hold. Would it be a good idea to just go ahead and rebuild both calipers and replace both sets of pads while I am at it? Also, is it common/uncommon for a bike with 13K on the clock to have these issues? I don't think I had this problem before I started working on it. The front wheel turned fine when it was up in the air. What could cause this?
Do not pull them apart unless needed and you should not need to. Use the 1/8" spacer method I told you about this AM. Follow Amy's Video and the PDF provided on my site you downloaded. You are making too much out of this. If you need to pull the pistons out, call me first as I will be working all day in the shop. Your pistons do not come out that eay for a first timer like you. This is all that is holding out your pistons easily removable. Spray and brush out every 2,500 mi with them on the bike and pads out if you use Sintered Brake Pads. Organics, just blow out with air..
