High voltage reading ?

Question High voltage reading ?
Heres a question for all who can answer. I have noticed latley that my volt gauge is reading about 14.5 volts all the time, no matter if I have a full load ( spot lamps, heated grips, etc.) or nothing on at all. Is this normal? I asked the dealer today, he said it could be regulator or stator problem. They would have to run a diagnostic to find out. What are your gauges reading?

It should be reading about 14v and should be steady. That is what a regulator does, it regulates the power coming from the stator to prevent overcharging the battery.

Put a digital volt meter on the battery or the charger pigtail with the bike running and compare the reading to the VM in the dash. More than likely the gauge is bad.

mine has read just over 14 volts since new 3 years ago

mine is just over 14v.. only changes when i turn off ign.
