I have a 2010 Limited and I'm wondering if upgrading my primary oil to something like Amsoil will smooth out the feel of my clutch?
Suggestions welcome.
Whats wrong with the clutch? Is it grabby, engages too early, too late, what? If it has the right level of oil in it and is adjusted properly it should be smooth already. My 2010 RK has the softest, smoothest clutch I've seen on a harley to date after I adjusted it myself. Many of the dealers aren't too good at adjusting but it worked fine after adjustment with the HD dino oil and maybe a little better after I changed oil last time and put Mobile V-twin in the primary. But adjustment is the key element both at the clutch basket and on the cable adjuster.
As others, I have had good service with the dino oils. Adjusted properly for sure, I would advise lubing the clutch cable too. 2010? probably just needs to break in more. Somethings when new are a little tight / stiff.

Make sure there is enough oil in your primary. The Limited manuals calls out for 38 oz's. It is a wet clutch and you have to keep it wet. Pull the cover and make sure the bottom of the clutch is in oil when the bike is sitting up level.
You want it *really* smooth? Put a hydraulic kit on it. One of my disappointments with the RG Ultra was the lack of a hydraulic actuated clutch. I test rode one a couple of weeks ago & the clutch was terrible! Out of adjustment, & the cable must have been dry it stuttered at every engagement. Getting back on my '07 with the hydraulic clutch made me realize Harley will have to make some more improvements before I trade bikes again.
I recently switched to teh HD dino primary oil, is a litte better than the M1 in there. The best fix was the SE med clutch spring, I install them on all my Harleys, best for slow speed manuvering. The SE Comp is great at smoothing out the whole drive train.
I had used Mobil 1 and Amsoil 20w50 for about 20k miles and the dealer changed my inner primary shaft bearing and re-adjusted the clutch and put HD primary fluids and i feel this has made my shifting smoother...i really don't think there is a lot of differences between all these fluiids...not much heat generated there or the tranny...
