I've been told that is to push the rider back away from the frontal collision. Out of the collision area.

Coming from one that has done a header onto the faring/windshield of an ultra, I would be in favor of that. I had over 400 stitches in my face that I might not have had if there was an air bag there. That windshield is very sharp when you hit it with your face. However, a good plastic surgeon can work wonders. Barely left a scar.

Goldwing production moved from Ohio back to Japan. The existing Ohio built bikes are being heavily discounted in anticipation of an updated model that will be released fairly soon.

There is no reason why an airbag couldn't be developed for a Harley. Whether it would sell is another matter.
