Default Not a Harley Snob

I'm not a Harley snob, I can appreciate lots of other motorcycles.. I even own one... and I love it almost as much as I love my HD.

But man,... I gotta say, I've been around bikers all my life, riding since I was 23, and I'm 60 now and the biggest bunch of nose in the air snobs I ever met were Beemer riders. I've actually got one Beemer rider who is the exception to that.

they're worse than Goldwingers.

Just my experienced opinion. I could be wrong. YMMV

Hey I don't have a problem with whatever bike the other guy rides. No problemo here. I say ride and enjoy. But personally, I know what I prefer...........for myself.....and non of those Ducati's, BMW's or other bikes styled like that appeal to me even in the least.

They all might be great, but when I fire mine up, pull out of the driveway and start cranking her through the gears, hear the roar, feel the vibration with the wind in my face, well its a feeling you do not get with any other brand bike. Run it down the road, feel the engine pull when its under a load.........well that does it for me.

Great choice and good luck. I plan on adding a GS to the collection one of these days but I'll keep the electra glide forever.

They can be well behaved, but they're a breed unto themselves. Convinced their DNA is superior proven by choice of purchase.

But in all seriousness, I ride with a guy who has 3 and although we give each other a lot of ****, we're still good friends.

He has never learned how to maintain and/or even do basic stuff like oil changes or air pressure checks. I checked his front tire one day ....12 PSI.. I don't think that was up to spec.

Read Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance,.... this guy is the Beemer guy the author talks about. Unable to comprehend the concept of having a relationship with the motorcycle.

But.. Live and Let Live is what I say.

Thank you all for your comments. I even miss our E-glide more now, thank's to you.
But as I said in my first post, we will surely buy another E-glide some years from now.

But right now we have so much fun with the Beamer. Today we have had some sunshine and 12 degrees celsius, and wife and I have spent 4 hours riding in the forests around here. I don't know how it is in USA, but we are allowed to ride quite freely in our forests.

Ride on friends

Man, that is a bummer. I hate it when anyone leaves the HD family. I do hear BMW has lots of runs too, but not as much fun. Ride safe!

Me and my wife really loved the Harley, but after 60.000km in four years we felt that we wanted to trade it to a newer one. One big reason was to get ABS brakes for security reasons. But the trading cost here in Sweden to a new 2009 FLHTCUI is almost 16.000 USD, and we can't really justifie that cost for 4 years of riding.
So instead, for 3.700 USD we left the Ultra and rode home on our new BMW instead. It's a completely different bike, but the pillion comfort is not far from the Ultra.
We are confident that we, maybee five years from now, will go back to an Ultra (hopefully HD Europe will adjust the crazy prices) , but until then.

Thank's to you all for all interesting reading, and communication on this forum.

I had a GS Adventure in 2003 - great bike in fact for the UK I'd say it was the best all round bike to have until you start riding with the crazy metal panniers on! Personally for two up work I'd rather have taken the 1200RT which I had a couple of years later. In fact I'm thinking about getting another one - neither however have quite the same 'feel' 'personality' 'connection' that the Harley does..

beemers are far superior in some ways, harleys in others. I put over 80,000 miles on my 2004 EGC and just bought a new 2011 Roadglide Ultra. I have also owned 3 late model beemers and put high miles on them (20,000 per year). It is all about what you want to do. Nice real twisty road take the beemer, nice dirt road take the beemer, 500 miles of interstate take the Harley. Going to Sturgis flip a coin just kidding take the harley. Don't really give a rip about what the other guy thinks flip a coin. Just ride and ride far.

I tend to ride more with Beemer riders and Honda riders, it has nothing to do with brands of bikes but because those are the guys who like to ride far and often in my circle of riding friends.
