Default Headsets

Finally got my wife into a 3/4 helmet she likes, a Fulmer V2 black w/ white stripe and little us flag, and today enroute to Skyline she decided to start wearing it. I think cause it was a little chilly. I asked if she wanted to stop by the dealer in ORange and get her a headset so we could use the intercom etc. and she was all about it. Got her all set up and just went up the street to eat, but the intercom was activating automatically and it sucked. Course I had never used the intercom before, so had no idea how to set that up.

Another couple came in to eat on an 07 ultra and we gave up half the table so they had a place to sit (it was crouded). I mentioned the intercom in passing and the guy showed me how to set it up. Thanks! It was honestly great being able to talk to each other a while riding. No confusion regarding where or when we are gonna stop. Great day of riding up in Skyline today also. Had a great day with my wife.

I know some don't like the whole "communication" thing when riding, but I think being able to talk with passengers and other riders is the way to go. I spent a lot of time on group rides being out of the loop and stressed out about gas stops, food stops and just the whole "not knowing" part of what's going on. Being able to communicate just makes the whole ride that much more safe, fun and enjoyable IMO.

I have an 2008 ultra and hve never used the intercom system yet. My wife and I are starting to take longer rides now and I am wondering if there is one out there that is wireless and i can still listen to he radio and cb on the bike as well? Do they make such an item or is the wired one they give you at purchase (and they only give you one) the way to go?

I honestly don't know... I believe there are wireless bike to bike comms available from other venders. But those don't allow you to integrate the CB, Intercom, and radio in one headset. The wired one from Harley does allow the three to be integrated. It is kind of nice just being able to communicate with my passenger, my riding buddy or listen to the CB on when on the interstate and listen tunes without blaing them. My wife likes it cause she can turn the tunes down, while I still listen to them and also let me know when she sees something... like the deer on the right. Usually I just see the pointed finger in my perif vision and turn like what? Her reply is did you see that deer... NO I saw you finger distracting me in my preif and heard you mumbling something over my shoulder...

A good buddy of mine had an accident about a month ago. Experienced rider also. I asked him what happened. He confessed he had turned to talk to his wife and ran off the road. He said his next bike would have intercomm... I suggested an ultra and he got a Goldwing But that made me more aware of the fact that my wife would occasionally try to tell me something and it is defintely a distraction when on the road. So I am happy to go this route as it is effective comms and minimizes the drivers distractions once used to the setup.

PS: Getting on and off the bike for the rider is fine. I take helmet off and set up on my dash. However, my passenger seems to think it necessary to unplug to get off the bike and it slows her down a lot for mount & dismounts
