Glad to hear you made it through OK. Here in the northern Colorado foothills we try to avoid late evening rides in the hills. We call that time of day deer-thirty.
Not a deer, but I was riding on the eastern plains of Colorado when a few antelope decided to cross the road. I slowed down, the cars behind me slowed down, but the semi coming the other way didn't slow down.
That truck didn't miss that antelope by more that 3 feet. I was just wondering, what would have happened to me if that truck had hit the antelope and knocked it into me? Has anyone been hit like that?
Dont tell anyone how Great the riding is here..They will pack up and be here before morning..As a Florida transplant I can tell you that this is Paradise...Keep it under your Hat..
Let's go ahead & rub it in.Where else can you ride the Cherohala Skyway
and the Dragon in 1 day, then be riding in the Smokies the next. All I can
tell you guys is Eat Your Hearts Out.
My wife hit a deer with her car early in the morning on her way to work one fall day a few years back when we lived in North Carolina. We were surprised to learn from our insurance company that the damages(bumper, grill and hood)to her car would be covered without any penalty or premium increase because hitting deer is considered a normal road hazard or some such thing. I wonder if it's the same deal with motorcycle insurance....?
Was also surprised to learn that such encounters are often fatal to both deer and driver. Apparently it's typical for the deer to fly right across the top of the hood, smash through the windshield and hit the driver with enough force to send them to the next world.....sheesh. In my wife's case she immediately stopped and examined the damage and figured out the car was still driveable even with it's smashed hood and a grill full of fur. She drove up and down both sides of the country road trying to find out what hit her but didn't find anything. We weren't sure what she hit until the body shop examined the fur stuck in the grill.
