It is my personal opinion that the 02's through about 05 are the best of the current bikes. Based on this forum and other telling lies sources, there seem to be less of the small and major issues and they run cooler. Concerns, apparently some of the early 03 still had the 40 amp breaker which was replaced with a 50 amp. On a lot of them the front brake feels "mushy and has a lot of travel - I replaced mine with a Brembo set-up. A lot of people (including myself) feel the 88 is underpowered, especially for two up riding - easily cured by putting the 95 big bore kit in. Depending on where you live you may want to put vents in the lowers because even the 03 engine can get very hot in traffic. I have a classic with QD lowers and the lowers come off in the summer. I know some people have had problems with the front engine mount, I will be checking mine out over the winter. Upgrade to the cams and oil pump has been mentioned. I personally prefer the colour scheme of the classic to the ultra. Love mine and cannot see me changing it until they bring out a water cooled lower weight tourer
I just bought a 04 EGS with radio, white gauges, back rest and the most important a carb off creags list for 10 G's with get this, org owner and 8000 miles on it.I replaced the rear brakes ,looks like he druged them the whole 8000 miles and changed the oil in it lucas 20/50 and just put my tour pack on it and my driver backrest will be here tomorrow I'm stoked.....
I was looking for an '03 Blk/Sil anniversary Ultra when I found my RKC (and it had a Baker DD6 already in it). I almost sold it last year too. Glad I didn't. I wouldn't hesitate to get an '03. If you feel you need a 6 sp then put the $$ difference in a Baker/etc. I really like mine, more than i like my buds '07 6sp.
Love my 03. Don't feel I need a 6 speed. I just keep adding to it little by little and just dig the black/silver. The trailer matched up pretty well too. Next pics will show the Monster Ovals and shorter shield but still traveling.
What is every body talking about upgrading the oil pump on these older bikes.Mine dosent have that high of milage on it but every body is talking oil pumps ???

Just did mine as well. Converted to Hyd cam tensioners with inner/outer roller chains and new cams/bearings. The bigger oil pump is part of the deal.
In case you are looking to find an 03 anny, mainshaft on the forum here just emailed me this:
The bike I have is a 2003 silver anniversary (black and silver paint) ultra classic pretty much stock with the addition of highway pegs and a US flag. Have a canvas cover for her along with the owners manual. Mileage is 8,379. I hit an ice patch and did some damage, but the bike was completely fixed by Waugh Enterprises in their shop. Progressive paid for everything including new helmet and chaps!
Looking for $10,800 to move it. Internet pricing is around $11,500 @ ebay and higher at dealers for bikes with more mileage.

i just got my king last year. there were a lot of other options out there but i loved the silver and black. i paid a little more for it because it was a "limited edition" blah blah blah, but i love the color scheme and haven't regreted it for a second.
