I know this is wide open but here's where I'm at. Things got tough and I sold my 2000 RKC about 6 months ago. Loved that bike, got a great deal on it with low miles but family first, yadda yadda. I'm about 1/2 way to having enough saved for an Ultra. i really like the 03 Silver and Black edition. Questions: Any suggestions either pro or con on the 03 anniversary model? If i can find a deal, is the 6 speed on an 07 worth continuing to save/wait for? Thanks in advance for anything related to the above!
All I can tell ya is I much prefer the color of the 03 over the 08. There have been few times I felt the need for a 6 speed but that is just me and I don't USUALLY go much over the speed limit. Well, not much....
I have a 07 and rode a 5 speed model road king, softail and road glide and i can honestly say the the 6 speed didn't make much difference..it's geared a bit differently i think...If it's in good shape....i don't think it's a bad bike...at or around 50k you may need to look at the cam chain tensioners is what i hear....may want to go to a gear or a hydraulic upgrade tensioner...
Friend just bought an '03 Ultra with 12,000 miles and in gunmetal silver/black. Oh Boy...What a beautiful machine !. If you could find one...Go on and get your hands on one.
Only thing I dislike is that skinny rear tire cuz I've been spoiled by my '09's 180 rear tire.
I did not think a 6 speed would be that much different. After selling my '06 RG and moving to the 2011 Limited 6 speed, all I can is wow.
The six speed is great for cruising at 70 plus.
Love my 03 AE Ultra. Wouldn't trade it for a new one, and that's after renting four different 09-10 baggers and putting a couple thousand miles on them.
I would say at 30,000 at least check the cam chain tensioners, if you can spend about 600.00 get the SE Cam plate , with hydro tensioners , and the upgraded oil pump.
I doubt you could get a dealer to install it for that, but ,it would be close.
I love my 03.

very good advice...anybody buying 06's and older should be aware...the hydro kit is the way to go or the S & S gear drive.....fair bit of labour but worry free....
