Your bike is in limp mode. When the engine light came on, you threw a code. Check the codes to see what it is. It is not bad gas. Reset codes and see if it pops up again.
Had mine go into limp mode in the middle of nowhere. Shut down and restarted about 4 times, same thing. Cleared codes and all was well. That happened about 6K ago.
My 2011 did that with about 600 miles on it. I was stuck roadside for about 15-20 min after limp mode stopped working and it shut down, and wouldn't start back up. Was on the phone giving my info and hit the starter and poof problem gone. Road it home no problems. Took it to the dealer and they said it threw all kinds of codes. They cleared the codes and its run fine ever since. Hoping it wont happen again I'll be pissed since they didn't actually fix anything.
If you're waiting on the HOG roadside assistance, good luck. Sorry bastards left me stranded on 465 in Indy. It was on a Saturday afternoon and HOG said they could get someone out there to pick me up on MONDAY! WTF?! I had to have my brother drive from an hour and a half away to come get me. I am no longer a member of HOG after that!
Anyhow, my fuel pump went bad on my 08 Street Glide when I was in Michigan. I had just stopped to get gas and took back off when the bike started coughing and stuttering. Bad gas was my first thought. I stopped at the next gas station and pumped the gas out of the tank and refueled. That wasn't the problem so I limped it about 25 miles to the Harley shop in Cement City. Guys there were great. They fixed the fuel pump and had me back on the road in a couple hours.

You can not "fix" the problem if you can not find the problem. No sence in getting pissed that will only raise your heart rate. Once they cleared the codes and it did not come back with any codes they have nothing to check/fix. That's what kinda makes me wish the bikes were as simple as in the good ole days.
