Well, had a trip planned for two weeks to ride to El Paso with some friends......last night on the way home engine light comes on. No problem will check it out this am and see if the light goes on again. Get on the street bike will not rev any higher than 2000 rpm, won't go fast only about 10 mph. So I guess I will spend some time at the dealership this morning instead of on a ride. Anyone had this problem. 2009 FLHX about 12500 on the clock?
check you gas, I was lucky and rode thru it,, couldn;t get over 55 , suddenly the bike reved and off I went... I think if I stop I would have been Shat out of luck
Any number of things could cause that. My first thought is it's nothing serious. Low miles, good running bike, suddenly won't rev past 2000. It could be anything from bad fuel to a partly bloked fuel line to a plug that went bad. I hope you find it minor and are back on the road quickly.
If you don't think you can get gas w/water or trash in it these days guess again. I have customers that rehab. in ground fuel tanks & clean them for this reason. Get some nasty stuff out too. Never fuel up @ a station when a fuel truck is filling their tanks. It stirs all that trash up & takes a while to settle after their done.
Your bike is in limp mode. When the engine light came on, you threw a code. Check the codes to see what it is. It is not bad gas. Reset codes and see if it pops up again.
My 2011 went into "limp mode" at 500 miles. To reset the ECM, start bike & then shut ignition off. Do this 4 or 5 times in a row & I was told it will reset the ECM. It worked on mine fwiw. I had 2 codes & was told that was normal for when the bike goes into limp mode. They checked everyrhing out & hasn't went into limp mode since. Currently have 1500 miles on the bike & I guess time will tell.
It's the connector under the seat. That's my guess. or at least that's what happened to me on my 08 the first 3 days I had the bike. hasn't happened on my 2010 thankfully.
