cruise disengages
I am wondering if this is a problem with just the switch and cable that I should replace or do you think while the tank is off and everything is apart I should/need to replace the cruise module????? I have no idea of the cost of the module but am wondering if I only replace the cable and switch and that isn't the problem, the labor to take everything apart again will cost as much as getting the module in the first place. Thanks for your opinion.
it for you....it might help.
Okay found it.....its still listed a few pages back...but insert this one response I got on the problem....see below:
Wanderer,
If you have tech manual go to idle cable adjust for cruise control for roll off adjust. If not.....
Go to the module and disconnect harness, adjust idle cable to full slack, place ohmmeter probe on the violet/yellow and orange/violet leads on connector plug. It should read infinity. Now adjust idle cable grip to about .06 " play. With the meter still hooked up, apply force to grip to decrease play or roll off. It should now read continuity on the meter. When you roll on the throttle it will read infinity again. Make sure you do this in all positions of handle bar lock to lock.
Bottom line.... infinity when your hand is off the throttle ....continuity when you apply pressure to throttle at it's resting place.. Adjust free play untill this happens.
There has been several queries abt the cruise control installation.....but I had 3 pages of responses from some very knowlegable
people that helped me....you might llok and see if you can find it under my name.

I read a past post about red and green light coming on. Where? My "C" is always green when it shows, and the switch indicator on fairing is always an orange when showing cruise is on.
As I have said before, the cruise does set and works for a little while before it just disengages.
Could misadjusted throttle cables at handlebars cause this problem???
it would work right. The first thing I did when I installed my cruise, was complete right hand grip control install and then adjusted the
throttle/idle cables.....not even thinking abt the roll back item....could never get it to work correctly. If it hadn't been for rm4040 reminding me that the init had to be performed....I'd still be playing with it. It did make a difference, when I hooked up meter to
the wires indicated and adjust the cable tensioners. If your throttle/idle cables are not setup correctly.....then you won't get your proper indications that cruise is working. Along the same lines....just slight vibrations will cause cruise to disengage....which means your probably right on the fence or curve, so to speak. Your gonna have alittle play in throttle....very small play.
