Rear tire was flat the other morning, it had a nail in it, I went
ahead and had a new tire put on, the tire had a little over 9k
on it but looked good. So how do you guys feel about plugging,
patching or puttin in a tube. There wasnt a tube available to
put in the tire so I just put a new one on.
A lot of folks are going to disagree with this, but I've plugged tires on race-replicas I used to speed around on, and not one of them failed. I mean upwards of a ton mph. The tires these days are so damn tough, it takes a hell of a lot for a catastrophic failure to occur. Seeing that I ride a hell of lot slower and less aggressively on my Harley compared to my rice-rockets, I would not think twice about plugging a tire on my Road King, and just keep going.
I use this repair kit.. I have fixed several tires..truck, trailer and bike. Never a failure. But on the bike if tire has some miles on it I will change it out. Once after changing out a plugged tire I decided to removed the plug and have it patched. I almost had to destroy the tire to get the plug out. I can't see how a tire repaired correctly with one of these could fail BUT I won't bet my life on it
since tire still has good tread I would ride on patch not plug.
I don't use plugs in my car tire so I wouldn't think of it on my bike.
If tire is at half way point then just replace tire. New tire cheaper then ride to hospital.
