I think you are saying that the seat moved you back away from the handlebars just fine, but also raised you up on the bike so that you sit higher as well.
I am not sure you will have a choice since moving back also puts you closer to the rear wheel. If you want any padding at all on the seat you will have to move up as well.
btw, I have a tallboy on my 08 RG. After 40,000 miles with very little 2-up, the seat pan has bent down to the extent that it rubs against the saddle bags. It rubbed the paint off of the corners of the bags. I definitely DO NOT recommend this seat. The HD seats in general have a too thin pan causing distortion after a while.
If you go to Corbin they will custom design a seat just for you and your rear end. That is probably your best bet.
I've had the tall boy seat for 2-1/2 riding seasons (almost 20K miles). You do sit very upright, like a desk chair, but I'm fine with it, especially two up. If you want more comfort for your passenge, try using a gel pad, but I don't see why you'd need to, the rear seat is very comfortable. My only complaint with the tall boy is that the material is a bit thin. I've had to have it fixed once when my boot lace hook caught on the material and tore it. I am sure their are better seats out there, but it's been working for so far.
