Have a 2007 RKC with 15,000 mi.
Oil and filter changed every 2,500 with HD synthetic.
All of a sudden the bike is making top end noise
like a bad lifter or something like that.
Has anyone else had this happen ??
Any ideas ??
Bike still runs OK. Oil level is full.

It very well could be a bad lifter. My mechanic doesn't like to use sythetic for this very reason. He said he had seen problems with lifters using synthetic oils go bad.Synthetic is good oil,but it's thin.I don't like the way the motor sounds when using it;The motor sounds like its going to tear apart!!!
i bought my 2006 flhri in march with only 8500 miles on it. previous owner used syn3 in it. i had never heard so many noises in a motor. i switched to harley 20w50 and the noises disappeared...

Got the same advise a couple of years ago and recently as well,I've never used anything but dino, never had a problem.
synthetic is alot more slicker then dino and thats why your motor gets noiser and it is good oil. but if u like quiet then stick to dino. dino is good as long as u change every 2500 to 3000 miles. but you will always hear drive train noise on a harley.
Subscribed,
jus cause I wanna know why someone would change out full synthetic oil at twenty-five hundred miles. Only if I lived on a heavily traveled dirt road, would I consider it.
